About this property

Sitting quietly at the foot of Cader Idris surveying the spectacular Snowdonia landscape, Tan Llan and The Coach House is a luxury holiday home for groups in North Wales. The main house, Grade-II listed and dating from the 1700s, sleeps 12 people in six bedrooms. A few steps away, the equally lovely Coach House has space for four people in two ensuite bedrooms. Extensive gardens and a location less than two miles from Dolgellau make this self-catering property perfect for walking, mountain biking, fishing, and sightseeing holidays in Snowdonia National Park.

Tan Llan & The Coach House is a premier self-catering holiday rental in Snowdonia. Sleeping 16 people in eight bedrooms, Tan Llan sits on 15 acres of private grounds on the edge of Llanelltyd in the Mawddach estuary, less than two miles from the market town of Dolgellau. Tan Llan is the larger of the two properties, with six bedrooms and spacious living areas. The Coach House, formerly stables to the main house, has two ensuite bedrooms and can accommodate four people. The layout across the properties is perfect for holidaying with another family or extended family, as it provides separate living areas while also encouraging relaxed socialising.

Dolgellau is a charming town ten miles inland from the coast at Barmouth. It sits beside the River Mawddach, and there is a wonderfully scenic route between the two along an old Victorian railway line. The Mawddach Trail makes up part of Wales' National Cycle Network Route 8 (Lon Las Cymru), running all the way between Holyhead and Cardiff, should you be feeling energetic! Like Tan Llan, many of the 200-plus listed buildings in Dolgellau are made from local grey dolerite stone roofed with slate. The town has every amenity guests look for in a self-catering location, including a supermarket for cooking at home and cafes and restaurants for dining out.

Cader Idris is on the doorstep to inspire you to spend as much time in the spectacular Snowdonia landscape as possible. It's a prime location for hiking and mountain biking, with miles of trails to take you up and over mountains, beside rivers, along the coast, and through historic Welsh towns and villages full of character and tradition. Contrasting with the rugged majesty of Cader Idris are the jewel tones of Portmeirion, 23 miles from Tan Llan and the Coach House. The sheer beauty of North Wales has inspired artists and poets and will leave a lingering breath of magic in your heart, too.

Accommodation Comprises:

Most accommodation is in Grade-II listed Tan Llan. Rooms are spread over three levels, and the contemporary style complements the traditional 18th-Century exterior.

Downstairs:

  • Spacious conservatory which acts as a winter garden to allow guests to appreciate the beautiful views all year round. It has comfortable rattan sofas and is a lovely place for afternoon tea.
  • Plaid sofas surround the open fire in the sitting room, where light natural tones create a welcoming space without distracting from the sight of the garden and nearby mountains.
  • The kitchen has a modern range in the inglenook fireplace, where a huge island worktop doubles as a breakfast bar and the massive American-style fridge/freezer has space for all of your groceries. Perch on oak stools for toast and coffee, and use the formal table for big family meals.
  • Leave coats and walking boots in the utility & boot room, where there are facilities to wash and dry clothing.
  • Two cloakrooms mean there's never any need to rush upstairs.
  • First Floor:

  • The master bedroom occupies its own wing and is beautifully furnished. The luxurious ensuite has a deep rolltop bath from which you can survey the grounds.
  • Two double rooms at the front of the house have king-sized beds and bay windows. Both have shower rooms decorated in the style of a 5-Star hotel.
  • Top Floor:

  • The top floor works well as a family suite with three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Two bedrooms have king-sized beds and ample storage.
  • A twin room with two single beds completes the accommodation in the main house. Every detail has been carefully chosen for your comfort, from the quality of the bedding and mattresses to the gorgeous Welsh wool blankets woven traditionally at Melin Tregwynt.
  • Coach House: The Coach House is a beautiful self-catering cottage a few steps from Tan Llan. Downstairs, it has a snug, living/dining room, kitchen and utility/cloakroom. Upstairs are two ensuite bedrooms, one with a king and the other with a superking bed.

Outside: Landscaped grounds make the most of the scenic location. There is lots of room for children to run and play, a patio with an outdoor dining setting, a games room with table tennis and table football and ample parking.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, fuel for the fire, bed linen and bath towels are included when you book Tan Llyn. One well-behaved dog over one year old is welcome. Smoking is not allowed.
