What our customers say about their holidays

This is the most fabulous place I know. The cottage itself is very comfortable and welcoming - I feel that I've come home as soon as I walk through the door. The welcome hamper left by Fiona and Steve was excellent and had everything we needed to get through the first evening - in case we'd not brought anything. The location is superb - the high view over the sea is wonderful and I spent time just watching that - watching the sea change colour, watching the little boats in the distance, watching the sky, watching the birds. Completely mesmerising. The walk down to the enclosed beach is exciting and worth the effort - you need to pick your times with the tides so as not to get cut off. If you're nimble enough to climb the gate to the path then the rest of the route should be ok for you. It is an effort but the reward is a beach that no one else uses. There are plenty of places to go to - if you want to walk there's plenty of that or there are fabulous beaches to drive to. And of course there is the lighthouse itself. Nothing quite like being lulled to sleep by watching the three beams of light crossing the sky... I tried so hard to stay awake to watch them but they sent me to sleep like nothing I've ever known. There is something very special in being there, way beyond the obvious. This was our third visit and we were exceptionally lucky with the weather. If I have any complaints they're petty and annoying and I'm ashamed of myself for mentioning them... ... the curtains in the bedroom need a thicker blackout lining, otherwise you are woken by the sun rise, which was around 4.30. ... if you like to cook you will need to bring your own knives, as the ones there are very blunt! I loved it and can't wati to go back.

I love Start Point Lighthouse and Landward Cottage. This was our fourth visit I've already booked to go there again in a few weeks. What do I love? The remote location - that there's nothing there but a lighthouse and two cottages - the house itself is beautiful and has everything you need but with no emotional attachment - the way the house seems to welcome you in, is comfortable and relaxing - the high vista over the sea - being able to look down to see seabirds flying - the clean air - the way after a couple of days you find yourself running up the stairs and charging up hills - the lack of 100,000 telephone signals going through your head - the beaches and the sea - watching the weather coming and going - sitting at the stone table watching the boats - that food tastes better there - that everything is kept so clean and everything works - that there is a basket of really lovely things awaiting you when you arrive. That doesn't happen on its own and Steve and Fiona do a fantastic job in keeping the place in such a lovely welcoming state. Best of all I love laying in bed watching the beams from the lighthouse swirling around in the sky above - I try valiantly to stay awake but one, two, three - I've gone. I sleep so soundly there. Landward cottage is much smaller than Beacon cottage but I prefer it - it feels more like home to me and going into Beacon feels like going up to "the big house". It might not be your thing - you might not feel the same delight in the place that I do - but there is every possibility you would be in for a treat.

Landward Cottage in Devon is the most wonderful location - I really don't think there is anything like it anywhere else. The cottage is comfortable, welcoming and homely. Everything works really well and there's a lighthouse outside. Its a long way from everywhere - if you don't like a bit of isolation this won't be for you - there is the lighthouse, two cottages and... nothing else. You will need a car - I don't think you could do this any other way. Its a great base to go out from, but to be honest I'm happiest just being there, pottering around, watching the sea, watching the weather change, watching the boats go by and the birds... breathing the air. Fill the cupboards up with food and cook - the kitchen is well stocked with utensils (although bring a sharp knife if these things matter to you). This was our 6th visit - I'd be there now if I could. In the last year the rotating beacon in the lighthouse has been replaced with an LED - I'll be honest, its not as magical as it was - something has been lost - but its still wonderful and still most definitely five-star. While we were staying we had an issue with the plumbing - the "caretaker" Steve was excellent and got things sorted out very quickly. This is the first time we've had any kind of issue with the property and it was heartening to witness how swiftly it was dealt with.

The cottage itself is very nice and large, would easily suit a family or 2 couples.
Each bedroom has a tv and there is a large tv in living room. Lovely having en suite to one of double bedrooms and main bathroom large spa bath. The mattress in the back bedroom definitely needs changing, very lumpy and uncomfortable. Also but smell, not sure if this was the mattress or the duvet, also the covers on duvet had been washed but very creased, just let it down a bit. We had a problem when the electric sockets and lights went off. Spoke to Gordon and luckily enough the managed to get hold of an electrician to come and check it over he said it was the pump on the boiler, Gordon then had to find a plumber and again he found one who could repair it. Gordon also gave us some free range Eggs from the farm which my husband said were really nice. There is nothing around for about 15 minutes drive, very difficult to find as Sat Nav took us to another address and luckily enough the owner told us where to find Honeysuckle Cottage. One track roads all around, but for walkers itâs ideal

The cottage is lovely; you enter via the back yard and back door into a roomy kitchen/diner which lacks cupboard space.
The lounge is very comfortable and the TV has Netflix which was an added bonus. The double bed is slightly hard and uncomfortable and the shower is slow, but overall, the cottage is very good. No visitors' book to complete which is a shame as we always enjoy reading where people have been to get some tips of where to go. The village is small with a very busy main road running through the middle of it. The shop stocked everything you could possibly need for a week's holiday. No dog walking places in the village unfortunately which meant we had to walk around the very narrow country lanes first thing each morning which wasn't so safe. Harbertonford is ideal for exporing south Devon and despite being there while storm Alex raged for 2 days we managed to visit Totnes (great for shops), Bovey Tracey (great for dog walking), Dartmouth, Salcombe, Paignton and Brixham. Overall, we had a great week and would return to the cottage.
