What our customers say about their holidays

I booked the retreat for my sister Hen party weekend when the balance had been paid I had a lovely email from Mark and Jo advising me about our arrival and telling me that they would meet me to show me around the house when I arrived.
Upon arrival Jo was there to greet us and showed me around a house, I can only describe the house as stunning. The attention to detail that Mark has put in to this house is unbelievable. Underfloor heating makes the house feel all cosy and welcoming, there is a fire in the main room and Jo told me they could bring me some more logs down if needed (which we didnât need as the heating was fabulous) The house is IMMACULATE I actually went around the house trying to find dust and we turned it into a game with a prize ⦠Nobody won as there was none. The house is stocked with EVERYTHING that you would needâ¦. dishwasher tablets, Dishcloths, tea towels, toilet rolls, soap absolutely everything (I had actually brought all of this with me as I didnât know it was included so took it all home) Mark and Jo had put a lovely little welcome box out for us with some lovely Yorkshire treats and homemade biscuits which were divine. The Kitchen was stocked with everything you could need accept a zester lol but I did bring my own so it was fine. When I opened a cupboard there was a number of items (spices, salt, pepper, oil) which I am assuming have been left by other people which was fabulous and we did the same leaving some things that we had just opened. The Bedrooms were warm, comfy and had plenty of storage for everybody. The bedding was spotless and very good quality, my room had this amazing grey comforter at the bottom which I would love to know where it came from. In the room every bed had 3 different size towels which were brilliant white. Outside the house â¦.. Well where do I begin â¦.. Absolutely breathe taking, you drive down the hill to see a completely unspoilt landscape with nothing around (as Mark told me the landscape has not changed since the 1800 apart from the electricity that now comes to the house). Your neighbours are Sheep so Jo told me that making noise or playing loud music was not a problem. Outside has a large enclosed wooden bar which has a wine fridge and heating in. Also robes, towels and flip flops were provided which we made use of when going in the Hot tub. Every morning Jo and Mark came to check that the hot tub was working and the chemical levels were correct so if you had any problems (which you wonât) you could see them. If I could go to THE RETREAT every weekend I would as I just felt so relaxed and comfortable there. The weather was horrendous constantly rained apart from 2 hours but is was still amazing. I cannot recommend this highly enough and I am a women who like to moan but there is absolutely nothing to moan about

The property was great - a real home from home and would certainly recommend without any hesitancy.
The whole family agreed that it would be our preferred place to stay if we come back to Newquay. There were some slight issues, which I hope will be useful. The main bedroom door - top hinge is loose, causing the door to drop slightly, so it doesn't close properly. On-suite bathroom: door hing is slightly bent, so causes sticking when closed. A member of our family needed assistance to get out. Bulb missing on mirror. Kitchen: The star LED lights on the wall could do with a simple remote plug-in plug. There's a potential hazard if the existing double adapter, which was hangoing out of the socket, were to fall. Amazon unit on the counter could not be used. It kept asking for a login. Hall to bedrooms off kitchen: ceiling bulb not working. Garden: Potential hazard for children. There is easy access to the pergola beams and fall from the grass walkway leading to the hammocks. Hall to bedroom with diamond window: ceiling bulb not working. Downstairs toilet: door latch does not meet. Inside bolt very tight. Downstairs bathroom: bolt does not meet. Second light not working. Guide book states, in reference to cooker, "Please read instruction at rear of this guide to usage." But no instructions. Same applies for washing machine and tumble dryer. Guide mentions television in kitchen - but there isn't one. The above list are things I noticed could do with fixing. They aren't major issues and did not spoil our enjoyment of this lovely home. I mention them because they are little maintenance issues that could quite easily be missed. Regards, Philip

We would definitely happily stay there again!
We found this a perfect property for four couples celebrating a 40th birthday - providing surroundings which amply justified ‘dressing for dinner’ at the grand 18th century table in the dining room or settling around the even older kitchen table for more informal meals. The hosts were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the amazing history of the property and their love and care for the buildings was clear in the attention given to making the gatehouse a very comfortable place to stay – good quality bathrooms, beds, towels and linen and plenty of crockery and cutlery. Our late September visit still allowed some evenings to enjoy a drink by the shade of the medlar in the courtyard or a wander through the Italian garden and orchard. Sadly we failed to fit in a game of badminton or croquet, equipment for which was provided! We all enjoyed walking the fens and visiting diverse nearby places of interest, including Stamford, Flag Fen Bronze age settlement, Barnsdale gardens and Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue. We just didn’t have time in our ten days to visit more! Three couples had cars but the fourth travelled by train from London – a swift easy journey. We met them from the station but either the regular bus service or a cab would have been quick and relatively cheap ways to get to the house, so a stay without cars could work just as well. Indeed in the generally flat terrain, bicycles could have been the perfect form of transport! We would definitely happily stay there again!

All the family went to the retreat on 31st of May 19 ,to celebrate my wife's 70 th Birthday.
Its an amazing house with fantastic facilities, beautiful countryside and scenery. The owner ,Jo,was lovely and made us very welcome on our arrival, came each morning to clean the hot tub . We were left on arrival a lovely welcome box with some nice treats and scrummy home made biscuits , they were delicious The house is so spacious and is really clean ( I'm a bit OCD and have high standards ) but it was spotless. the bedrooms were really well fitted and the beds were so comfy and lovely white linen and fluffy towels. The children's room had 4 single beds and the TV was a real bonus for them to play on their x box video games etc .( give the grown ups a bit of peace ) . The main bedroom was beautiful, with walk in wardrobe and en suite . Main upstairs bathroom so spacious and lovely free standing bath . Lounge is huge and very comfy , TV , lovely fire very comfy sofas and chairs , perfect for a chill out day if weather bad lots of board games .The kitchen and dining area are fantastic, there is everything you need and more , so well equipped they have thought of everything. The hot tub and wooden bar are a really great feature with lovely fluffy robes and towels and this really made our holiday, the children loved it ,and the big children loved it even more. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants a family holiday / party / celebration.Could not fault this accommodation it was well worth every penny . Would definitely go again
