What our customers say about their holidays

  • Dr Jones - Verified booking

This was a really practical house for multiple families to stay in - with 5 really good sized bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The kitchen is really well appointed and the dining space is brilliant. There are beautiful views from the upstairs, you can see the sea and lots of open farmland with a lovely stables behind the house. There are thoughtful touches throughout the house, with rooms not having their own en suite having dressing gowns for privacy and a lovely welcome pack that was a great start to the holiday. The kitchen is packed with everything you could possibly need in terms of utensils and equipment and the two dishwashers are brilliant. A couple of comments to make people aware of before they book - there are a few rules to follow. The hot tub is only 9am-9pm which was disappointing, dogs must be crated if left alone in the property despite the whole downstairs being stone floors, and there is no grass enclosed at the property if you are bringing dogs. There is grass around the property to the front but not as part of the garden. You also aren’t allowed to charge your cars - despite there being no real alternatives nearby. Also, you have to strip all the beds and be out the house by 9am, which is a little unreasonable. Seahouses itself is beautiful - there is plenty to do, to see, the food is brilliant regardless of what you are looking for. We can’t recommend the boat trip to the Farne Islands highly enough and we walked to Bamburgh along the beach and it was brilliant. The house is a short walk from both the town centre and the beach, making it ideally situated for both!

An excellent property in a beautiful village, however, sadly let down by the state of cleanliness and attention to detail.

On arrival it was obvious hoovering had not been done properly. The large black beam up the stairs to the attic room was covered in thick dust, as were numerous windowsills about the property. The vacuum didnt work and was left half filled with dust. There were no logs or kindling for the fire when there should have been! (Listing) A hearth set would have been appreciated but there was none provided. The ironing board was broken and could not stand up. There were no soaps in all the hand wash dispensers in any of the three bathrooms. We contacted NCCC by phone to complain about the lack of wood/soap and vacuum cleaner ( REF NO COR-351518-CF Dated 10/11/23) A lady arrived the following morning with a replacement vacuum, some wood and kindling and soap. She also gave us a bottle of wine to accompany her profuse appologies which was much appreciated. Clearly the cleaning company is not doing its job properly, including supervision. This seems to be a common issue with this property reading others past reviews! On a more positive note we found the property warm and comfortable with ample room for 7 of us and overall was well equipped. The hot tub was a definite bonus in the cold weather and was well maintained. Next doors dog fouled on the driveway in front of our cars, we cleaned it up, this has happened before according to previous reviews. We would still however recommend this lovely house and area as a place to holiday.

We stayed here 2 years ago and absolutely loved the property, location and facilities, hence being very excited to return.

Whilst the house in itself is still great, the wear and tear is definitely becoming visible and the property could do with updating in places. The TV in the main room is poor, and things like the outdoor table were dirty and worn. The oven was very dirty inside and the fan-assist on the bottom oven didn't work. The top oven seal must have gone as the control buttons above became incredibly hot and you couldn't turn it off without burning yourself. The outdoor bins were full and overflowing when we arrived so we were unable to use any recycling facilities at the property. Sadly however, these scores are mainly based on the fact we paid £160 supplement for use of the hot tub which we were unable to use due to a known fault in the pump. Despite multiple calls and messages from the first day that we arrived this wasn't rectified, and our complaints were continually dismissed. The awful noise from the filter/pump could be heard throughout the property, making sitting out and enjoying the garden impossible, not to mention not being able to actually use the hot tub as advertised. Very disappointed with the hot tub facility and the way the situation has been handled by Sykes/NCCC and we are currently in the middle of a complaint case where we are sharing the video evidence we have from our stay.

There can be few better places to spend a week before 12 weeks 'self isolation' than at 'The Steadings'.

A fine cottage based on a working farm at the historic 'Tosson Tower' site. Outstanding views over the Coquet Valley, Rothbury and towards the Cheviot Hills. Very close to Tosson Tower is the Simonside Forestry Walking Area.[ Although the single track road to get to the visitor parking areas is a bit grim for low slung saloon cars] Nearby attractions include Cragside and Wallington Hall NT Properties. The scenery of the magnificent Northumberland Coastal Region including Bamburgh, Seahouses etc is about 40 to 60mins drive away via Alnwick with the Castle and its historic connections. The cottage itself is some two miles or so from Rothbury with its shops and other amenities. The cottage and its owners were very 'dog friendly' and walks starting from the cottage itself supported our canine friend. The secure garden was also a definite plus! The cottage itself was warm, well equipped and a delight to return to after a hectic outdoor day. If there is any slightly negative comment, which did not in anyway affect our party of two, is that with only one shower a full six person party would lead to some morning queuing. The cottage itself is extremely spacious with good wi-fi. Overall a delightful cottage holiday in a turbulent week.
