What our customers say about their holidays

This was my fourth stay at River Cottage and as always the village of Calstock and River Cottage never fails to impress.
Thanks to Paula and Emma for always keeping a clean and tidy cottage. Since my last visit, pre-Covid I did notice some changes in the Village, all for the good, with the Social Club & Village Hall seeming that much more busy & well used and people in general waterfront. Though the noise from the music & customer drinking outside the Social Club could be heard from inside the cottage, on the Friday & Saturday evenings, this did not go beyond 11.00pm, so unless you go to bed before this time should not be an issue. It was also fascinating to see the Flood defences which have been constructed along the River towards the Okel Tor Mine. One comment (niggle) is that whilst on previous visit we had noticed noise from the neighbours property which backs onto & is above the lounge, this year it was louder than had been previously. Most evenings, even with the TV on in River Cottage, you could still hear the TV from the neighbours and other loud sounds which started from early afternoon into the evening. Also whilst a personal choice would suggest if you normally sleep with a soft or medium pillow you may wish to take your own as the pillows in all the rooms are particularly firm. In addition a word of warning, we arranged for a food delivery from Tesco on the evening of our arrival and ten minutes before it was due to be delivered, without any prior warning, recâd a text message to advise that due to a âsystem problemâ there would be no delivery. So you might be best to do a supermarket shop in Tavistock before you arrive in Calstock.

We stayed at Tredarn at the beginning on July, and WOW what an experience.
Firstly the home is absolutely stunning. The house was clean and welcoming, the snacks left were fabulous and the kitchen was fully equit. The rooms were pristine and so cosy. We had a problem when we arrived as the dryer had been reported broken by the previous guests. HOWEVER, Jane was so lovely and offered launderette expenses.. not that we took her up on this, these things happen and who actuals wants to wash cloths on there holiday anyway. We also met Mr Tredarn who came the day the dryer repair man came and he was equally as lovely. Both Stuart and the repair man were so friendly, both so apologetic when the dryer couldt be fixed (again not the owners fault). The hot tub was fabulous, the kiddos loved it! We had our 2 doggies and they settled straight away. Hayle is beautiful, the beach was fabulous and places like Penzance, St Ives and lands end are so close. If your looking for a beautiful home in a beautiful seaside town, then this is the one!. It's a gem and well definitely be back next year. We actually fell in love. Can I also shout out to Jules and her husband who turned up alittle before we left (concierge) again absolutely fantastic people, so down to earth and lovely to chat with. Thank you for having us! A very well equipped holiday home facing the river.
Stunning location. Looks like an olde world fishing village with lots of alleyways and narrow roads. Lots of local information books. A very comprehensive wall map in the kitchen with various activities listed. A detailed welcome book. Plenty of nearby woodland walks. Two nearby village pubs serving meals. The Tamar Inn faces the two bedrooms and the terrace on the first floor. The pubs extractor fan could be noisy until after 21.30. The top floor en suite bedroom faces the river. Some additional window blinds would be useful for the top bedroom as the harbour lights stay on for most of the night. There is an ice cream parlour (expensive) on the river front. In front of the house is a small square containing the local social club and village hall. Additional free car park a few yards away. A mile walk from the stunning Cotehele House. Local train journey to Plymouth about 25 minutes. Near to Tavistock and Launceston. The only downside was the next door neighbour who told us on arrival we couldnât park there. Her criteria regarding parking didnât match the owners detailed instruction manual. We didnât appreciate an additional unpleasant note on our vehicle. In summary, great holiday home, great location, shame about the neighbour.

The house itself is beautiful and the location idyllic, so peaceful.
We had some lovely goodies from the cider farm on our arrival which were really nice. Unfortunately thatâs where it ends. The smell of urine on the furniture and carpets was overwhelming and the first thing we did was go out and buy air fresheners and candles, we put our a throw over the sofa as it was stained and didnât feel pleasent. We tried to cook in the kitchen but the extractor doesnât work so all the alarms go of unless you have windows and doors open. We reported this by phone but never received any reply. The outside back door light doesnât work and it feels very dark entering the property that way, which we did because there is the utility and coat hangers there. The second week my son complained of a rash on his arms and back, to our horror we discovered bed bugs in his bed. He changed rooms but that was the same. He had to sleep on the sofa downstairs. There is cobwebs all over the velux windows, while one is high the others are within easy reach and need to be cleaned. The shower whilst big needs bleaching around the bottom as there is black discolouration on the sealant. This would be an amazing place if it wasnât for the cleanliness.

Absolutely fantastic property.
Very spacious for the whole family. Everything is high standard. Kitchen has all the crockery, utensils and pans you need if you like cooking on holiday. Spotlessly clean throughout. Beds really comfy with beautiful views to wake up to from the back of the house. Ample shower, bath and toilet facilities. Loved the spacious private garden as did our dog. The hot tub was a lovely added luxury. Excellent location as a base to visit all Cornwall's beautiful places. A little road noise from the A30 but nothing disruptive. Local Turnpike Inn just a few minutes walk serving high quality food. Trevaskis Farm restaurant is only a 5 minute drive for delicious farm food with a little area for children to see donkeys, pigs and sheep. Hayle for stocking up on groceries etc.. Information book provided gave helpful detailed information. The owners have put a great deal of thought into providing everything this property needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here plus we were lucky to have glorious weather too.
