What our customers say about their holidays

This was an old but very clean property in a great location in the Peak District.
Very creaky floors which I guess is to be expected for its age. Nice really well equipped high spec kitchen but both fridges and the freezer were difficult to open as they werenât fixed in the housing of the fitted kitchen. The busy road right outside the house was very noisy and meant that windows could not really be open especially at night (it was hot on floor 1 and ground floor) and it was not possible to use the garden comfortably to relax due to the noise of heavy traffic passing by constantly. 3 private parking spaces allocated to the property were not guaranteed to be available to use for 5 days of our stay due to being used by customers visiting the fish and chip shop opposite. This caused problems for our 3 car party. This issue was mentioned in an email but only after booking and payment. Bedrooms a good size (main en-suite bedroom ground floor door impossible to close). Beds comfortable and clean. Lots of bedroom cupboard space and bathrooms very nicely done. Iâm sure plenty of others will enjoy and have enjoyed a lovely time here and we were okay but for the price point I think there are simple maintenance improvements that could be made and the noisy road/parking issues should be mentioned before any payment is made as this could be a dealbreaker for those seeking peace and quiet.

A lovely cottage with plenty of good walks and beautiful countryside within a short distance.
It was well equipped and laid out, and had been prepared very nicely for us. We use the DVD player to watch a film one evening; it worked well and instructions were easy to follow. Our group has two trips a year and we all agreed this had been one of the best - the fabulous May weather helped of course! Just two very minor niggles - one is that it looks as though no expense has been spared for most of the work in the cottage - fittings are done to a very high standard, the furnishings were great, etc. But the pans in the kitchen were very thin bottomed, and although we're all pretty experienced cooks we had problems with burning the pan bottoms. The other point wasn't one that bothered us particularly, but it might be worth flagging up more clearly that there's no wifi in the cottage. Some people will see this as an advantage anyway (it may help get the kids away from their screens!), others might not be aware of it as wifi is becoming more standard these days, and may see it as a negative. These are really minor points. Overall we had a very good stay and the cottage definitely met or exceeded expectations. Thanks!

We really loved our stay at Gun End Cottage, a cottage full of character in a beautiful part of the world.
The cottage is well equipped and comfortable with an interesting history that you can read about in the information folder, this folder also has a tongue in cheek poem about the cottage and its idiosyncrasies which made us smile. It has a simple quaint appeal, if you appreciate fittings from an earlier age which we do, you will love this place, the brass door knobs, the leaded window's, the fireplaces and the Duckett basin in the upstairs bathroom. The nearest neighbours are the sheep in the field adjacent to the cottage. With every trip out you are immediately on a scenic drive. We visited Buxton, Leek and Longnor all places with individual appeal, as for walks, The Roaches, Lud Church and the Manifold Trail are great and can be made as leisurely or taxing to suit your own level of fitness. Another nice walk is to leave the cottage, turn left down the hill until reaching a footpath sign on the left for 'Gighall' which leads to the river Dane. Some of the more remote roads in this area are winding, narrow, steep and 'interesting' to say the least and one gets a great sense of achievement at journey's end.

Location and cleanliness of the Accomodation was fine, as expected.
As this was a new build, would have expected the door handle in the main open plan kitchen not to have fallen off a number of times during the stay, there were only 50% of the required screws in the handle. Also, as listing is for a hot tub cottage I would have expected the water quality, temperature and level to be correct and maintained before our stay. The water level was so low there was an error message on the display & a film on the water meaning we couldnât use, as a regular hot tub user this hadnât been maintained for a number of months looking at the film on the water and colour of the filter! While using the outside space it was evident there was a wasp nest in the shed right by the seating area making this hardly usable despite the good weather. Finally, as the caretaker explained, the current building regulations mean that all windows must be escape windows which would have been fine had they been fitted with safety latches which they were not and therefore dangerous for our children of 7&8 in a three storey house. Overall a very disappointing stay due to some basic failings!

We had a great time.
The house is great for a get away. The view from the garden is spectacular. Only things we had concern about was the lack of pans/cookware, we cooked for a full party of 8 and struggled. The underfloor heating never got any cooler and the hot tub thermostat. The owner did say its on the way to getting fixed, we just struggled to get the temperature down sometimes. For anyone coming to the property I would advise to bring everything you need, the local shop is pricey and the petrol station isn't the best equipment we struggled with buying milk. The coffee provided was decaff, a few disappointed sore heads when we realised. The quality of the house is one of the best we've stayed in for a long time. Would highly recommend the stay to anyone. The walk into Buxton center and Solomon temple was beautiful.
