What our customers say about their holidays

A Lovely Cottage with Some Disappointments Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the pleasure of staying at 10 Budle Sands Cottage and overall, it was a pleasant experience.

The cottage itself is charming and has a lot of potential to be a perfect holiday retreat. However, there were a few disappointments that prevented it from being a truly exceptional stay. Let's start with the positives. The cottage itself is lovely, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The interior design is tasteful and the furnishings are comfortable. The rooms are well-appointed and provide a comfortable space to relax and unwind. The location is also fantastic, with beautiful views and easy access to nearby attractions. However, there were a few issues that detracted from the overall experience. Firstly, the lack of basic amenities such as toilet rolls and tea towels was quite surprising. These are essentials that one would expect to be provided in a holiday rental, and it was inconvenient to have to purchase them ourselves. Additionally, the inadequate supply of cleaning products made it difficult to maintain cleanliness throughout our stay. The outside grey bin being already half filled with rubbish meant we had to find somewhere to dispose of our rubbish on our way home! Another disappointment was the lack of Christmas decorations. We had booked the cottage during the holiday season with the expectation of a festive atmosphere. I had contacted the booking company to ansk if the cottage was going to be decorated annd was told it would be! Unfortunately, there were no decorations or festive touches, which was a letdown. Despite these shortcomings, I must commend the cottage for its potential. With a little more attention to detail and ensuring that basic amenities are provided, this could be a truly exceptional holiday destination. In conclusion, 10 Budle Sands Cottage has the makings of a wonderful holiday retreat. The cottage itself is lovely and the location is fantastic. However, the lack of basic amenities, inadequate cleaning products, including washing powder for the washing machine and the absence of Christmas decorations were disappointing. With some improvements, this cottage has the potential to be a standout choice for a holiday getaway. Disclaimer: This review is based on my personal experience and opinions may vary.

We stay in rental properties 2 or 3 times a year and have just returned from a two week stay at Rede River Cottage.

The cottage is in a lovely setting a mile from a main road so really quiet. However was a little disappointed that the owner, who was in the driveway when we arrived, didn’t walk up to greet us, introduce themselves and go through a few things with us, which is really unusual. When the shopping turned up 1/2 hour later we struggled finding the freezer which was in the cupboard in the entrance hall and later finding the glasses. The kitchen is a lovely size but let down by only having a 6 place crockery and mug set. There are lots of cupboards not being used and a 12 piece crockery and mug set would be more economical by being able to fully load the dishwasher. As other comments have mentioned, the property was very clean and a lovely welcome pack left for us. Every bedroom had a ensuite with two having lovely big baths, and big walk in showers which was nice, and a shower to the other one. Also lots of lovely big fluffy towels The owners were really reactive when we had a little bird come down the log burner chimney which was lovely. For me, to give it a 5 star, a few things need addressing. The sleigh bed is beautiful but really creaky so we ended up moving out into another bed. The pillows could do with an upgrade as they are very thin and uncomfortable, Finally, with farm traffic, owners, visitors, we found the property, especially two of the bedrooms very overlooked from the driveway, a few more shrubs would cure this including the garden being very overlooked from the owners property/field and the road, again would be rectified by a few more shrubs. With these few adjustments this would be a beautiful holiday escape

Rede River Cottage was a warm, extremely spacious and well equipped quality, ground floor cottage with the most generous welcome pack we have ever come across!

Julia was so friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the eggs supplied from their own hens on the farm were delicious! It was a peaceful base, enjoying dark skies, just a few miles from the small town of Bellingham and its fabulous, friendly Carriages Tearoom, and close to Otterburn with its convenience store and Otterburn Mill. The main purpose of our visit was for the 'Astrophotography' and 'Marvellous Milky Way' evenings at The Kielder Observatory about 30 miles from the property. This is a great place to visit even when it's cloudy like it was for us...luckily by the time we returned late to the cottage we had clear skies to see the stars. The enthusiastic and experienced young staff keep you well entertained and educated even when it is cloudy. Hexham was a nice town to visit with a large and impressive Abbey with 'Big Story' display and its own nice tearoom. Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall are close by. The cottage isn't far from the Scottish border and small, lovely villages like Rothbury. Kielder Water is great for exploring its footpaths in the forest, visiting the skewed viaduct on the dismantled railway line near Kielder village, and for watching the bird life in the forest and on the reservoir from the hides there. On this visit we didn't go to the spectacular Northumberland coast so familiar to us, or to Newcastle, but these can be highly recommended to new visitors to the area. A highly satisfying visit to Rede River Cottage and Kielder.

Lovely property in a great location, easy access- walking distance to some of the best beaches in Northumberland and the best crab sandwiches at the Ship Inn. The property was large and comfortable, great built in oven and microwave and fabulous to have a gas hob. Plenty of plates/cutlery/glasses (perhaps too much, difficult to keep track of cleanliness with so much stuff available). The property was lovely and warm and very quiet. The only thing that let the property down was the cleanliness. The floors needed a good clean, thick dust in the corners and cobwebs hanging from the walls in the main bedroom. The bathroom was disappointing, black mould around the bath and shower door. I had to clean the shower head before we could use the shower to remove all the mould. The bottom of the shower door is missing allowing water to escape all over the floor making it very slippery. We booked this cottage for the enclosed garden for our dog. Unfortunately the grass was so long she couldn’t use it and we had to take her on the village green out the front for her to toilet. The grass was cut on the Thursday, far too late as we left on Saturday.

Very happy with quality and location of property. A few faults were lack of info at property, eg could not work the TV easily and never managed to use iplayer etc which we wanted to do. No instructions for anything. Also toilet seat broken in downstairs toilet and no mirrors on walls in bedroom. Missing entirely from main bedroom and in second bedroom it had been taken from wall and randomly propped up against a cabinet. Had a feeling that we were staying in someone's house where they had just left for the week rather than an authentic holiday property with welcome pack, visitors book etc. Garden not pleasant to sit in due to noise from AC at pub and a bit grotty too. But a stunning location and overall nice house but not very good value for money.
