  We spent a week at Oriel cottage during August 2023. It’s in a good location to get to Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Saunton and Barnstable, all are within a 20 min drive. You should note that the access road to the property is private and it’s about a mile from the main road. You cannot turn right onto the main road when you leave or take a left into the access road when returning, as we found out to our cost! Instead do a U turn at the saw mill, which is just down the main road. The hot tub was nice, however the jets are not very strong for my taste, I wonder if it needs servicing? The garden is private and not overlooked and it’s a fairly well equipped property. The beds were fine, but we found the sofa really uncomfortable. The outside clothes airer is a welcome addition. The floors in the property were not very clean, there was a big clump of hair in the en-suite bathroom and it just needed a good sweep, which I did. I would have mopped it if there had been one there to use! There was also a slight smell of damp, it’s very strong in the cupboard with the cleaning equipment. You might want to do some local research as there was no local information, local recommendations or a visitors book (old ones) so you can read up on others suggestions. You should also do some shopping as there is no welcome pack with this property, not even a pint of milk, which was extremely disappointing! I can’t get over that there was absolutely no local information given by the owners not even about where to do a U turn out of the access road and to then not even get milk so you can at least have a cuppa after a long journey more than disappointing given the nearest shop is 6 miles away! We visited family who were staying in another property a few miles away and the information pack for their property was excellent and they did get a welcome pack too! This lack of detail just doesn’t make you feel very welcome in my opinion. We liked the area and loved Woolacombe beach, it’s safe with plenty of life guards, so the kids got to enjoy plenty of bodyboarding and surfing which made our holiday.

  We spent a great week (10-17th Aug) at The Hawthorns.

  You are quite literally in the Devonshire countryside with just the noise of the birds and animals, so relaxing. The cottage is one of the best holiday accommodations we've stayed in. Standard/cleanliness were excellent. Six of us stayed of different age groups, 2 young ones, 2 middles plus us 2 oldies! Oh, and 1 dog. On arrival we were amazed by the chocolate cake, eggs and milk left for us. Also a basket with bits to get us started. We were all well catered for with the excellent facility of well equipped games barn, field for football and badminton. The hot tub and outside seating were our favourite, returning earlier than usual each day to use it. The whole cottage is beautifully furnished with no expense spared. The kitchen/diner was well equipped and spacious. Bedrooms were all very comfortable with lots of storage space. Damon & Karen, our hosts are very friendly and welcoming with tips and information. All in all a great week and I could go on...... Missing the cottage with the peace and quiet already

  Absolutely gorgeous property in rural location with wonderful hot tub . Particularly enjoyed the very quiet setting no traffic nor light pollution just a wake up to bird song Fantastic . We loved the fact that the cottage had sumptuously comfy beds, was very well furnished with appropriate facilities and cooking utensils and had a small rear enclosed grass garden which proved safe for our small cocker spaniel to wander in safely in between walks . The separate tap for the filtered water was also really delicious. We booked this as a last minute family break and so glad we did . Whilst there we used it as a base to visit the key Pitt’s quad biking ( just up the road ) Clovelly and also North Devon aqua park all on our list of holiday attractions . Would thoroughly recommend and will definitely return

  Property was very well equipped to feel like home from home. Very clean and well kept. Hot tub was the cleanest we have ever had on a holiday. Gardens secure and well maintained. Host was extremely helpful and friendly. The 8ft gap in to the car parking area looks smaller than actually is but plenty of room to park and turn the car around even when both cottages are in use. I would recommend this property and location to anybody looking to explore the coast, lots of places to visit. If you book I also recommend the broom sculpture gardens, well worth a visit and dogs and young children are safe to run freely. Views are spectacular. One of the best uk holidays I have had

  You asked us to let you know our comments after staying for a glorious week at Oriel Garn Cottage in Mamhilad. It was splendid and has to be a serious contender for the best small cottage in Wales. Beautifully presented, immaculately clean and decorated and everything you could want from superb views to comfort and convenience. Mr and Mrs Jones have put a considerable effort into this cottage and it is a credit to them and yourselves for marketing such a delightful getaway. Well done to all of you. We will look at it again for the 2014 Abergavenny Food Festival. Don't change anything – it's all there.
