  Ragleighs was probably the best holiday home that we have ever rented.

  It was very well equipped, was very spacious (accommodating all fourteen of us very easily), and very tastefully furnished and decorated. Everything looked as new when we arrived! And finally, it was very conveniently located directly above Daymer Bay Beach and a very short drive to Polzeath Beach. So, 11 out of 10 for the house. Now for the not so good bit. On Saturday (our third day) we noticed that the shower room and the bathroom on the ground floor were not draining properly so I called the Agents on Saturday afternoon and was told that someone would come on Saturday to investigate. On Sunday a man turned up and ‘plunged’ the bathroom waste. He didn’t look under the manhole cover in the decking directly outside the bathroom window.. A day or two later we noticed that bathroom still wasn’t draining properly and, as I had just had an email from the Agents informing me that the case had been resolved and closed I replied by email saying that things still weren’t draining properly and that they should send a plumber/drain specialist back. Nobody turned up. On Wednesday morning the next door neighbour arrived and said that he thought there was a problem with one of the cess pits and, having checked his, he thought that Ragleigh’s cess pit was probably full as it was overflowing dirty water into his garden. He said he would call John Bray (the local Agents, not Sykes who I had booked through and who had informed me that the problem had been sorted) and ask them to get the cess pit emptied as quickly as possible, which was duly done by 2.20 pm on Wednesday afternoon. So, if the cess pit had been emptied before it filled up and started overflowing, or if the man who came on Sunday had bothered to lift the manhole cover we would have had a lot less trouble.   What can you say about Holcombe House.

  ....it looked magnificent in the pictures but was even better in reality. It is a truly amazing property - my daughter described it as staying in 'National Trust' property. It is a large house with many rooms, but its is also very warm and homely - we felt immediately comfortable there. The kitchen is where we ate most of our meals and, as is often the case, was the gathering spot. We spent a number of shared evenings in the main living room, which easily accommodating the seven of us (and dog). The annex kitchen was used by the kids for their studies, so near enough but far enough. The two additional TV rooms were ideal to give everyone enough space so we weren't in each others pockets the whole time. The kids also enjoyed some very competitive games of table football in the conservatory. The bedrooms we used were all huge, although the two in the annex were smaller, they weren't small. We also had bathrooms for each pair, so again allowing for plenty of comfort and no waiting. The grounds whilst not massive were plenty for the dog and I even managed an afternoon in the sun to read my book - not to be sniffed at in mid-October. A word of advice - the gateway is a little tight for those with larger cars so best approached from up the hill as on a slight angle, but this isn't an issue and there was plenty of parking space (the Google maps pictures are not up-to-date). I could not recommend this property enough - we were a party of seven + dog and it was perfect for us but could easily accommodate bigger groups. On the (very sad) day of leaving my wife described it as a privilege to stay in such a magnificent property....that about sums it up.

  My family and I had the most wonderful stay at Holcombe House.

  There was plenty of room for us to spread out in the large reception rooms. Our first evening we all enjoyed a meal in the beautiful large and airy dining room with a lovely view of the setting sun. The bedrooms were large and airy as well, with comfortable beds. I holidayed in Torquay as a child and am glad I came back and introduced my family to the English Riviera, we were lucky to be blessed with a full week of sunshine everyday. Everyone loved Torquay, we experienced great food at all facilities we visited with friendly service staff. An excellent holiday we will definitely be back to visit again. There were a couple of negative things I would like to mention which did not spoil a great week but I feel need mentioning. The recycling bins were already full up when we arrived on the Friday, we put them out as instructed on the Wednesday. We had to use black bags for our waste. The bin men emptied the black boxes already filled from the previous occupants and then emptied our black sacks into the boxes!! We struggled to keep on top of recycling as there are not enough boxes for a large party of people. Also, the garden was very overgrown when we arrived which did add a slight disappointment to the overall impression of such a grand house. However, this was sorted within a few days, which made a big difference.

  Went as a family group of 11 (2 families) with a mix of ages from 50’s to tweens and everything in between.

  The house is amazing with all the space and facilities you could need for a large group, it was immaculately cleaned on our arrival and the lovely gesture of fresh flowers and biscuits was such a nice and welcoming touch. We arranged a supermarket delivery for our arrival which came with no problems and had pizzas delivered too from domino’s (we were worried that we may be too secluded). Own mistake was not reading quite carefully enough as it does state towels provided and these were clean, fresh and fluffy hotel quality with enough for everyone who was staying if needed (could have saved some packing space). The house was always warm and cosy even without lighting the gorgeous log burner but we did once or twice just for the full farmhouse ambiance (its amazing and so relaxing) the kitchen was superbly equipped apart from some scissors which we brought (we left them in the drawer for the next guests). From a teen and tween perspective i was slightly worried about wifi, as screens are obviously life, but not only was the wifi serviceable it far outstripped our service back home (not once did i hear a complaint about it being slow or no signal) Overall i would without hesitation return, and am already looking for dates the whole family can do again.

  Well what can I say, we have just returned from a week at Holcombe house and I honestly couldn’t have asked for anywhere better to stay.

  The house is huge and immaculately clean and fresh. We had absolutely everything we needed in the kitchens to prepare meals for our big family. We were away for my mums 70th birthday, so this was a special family gathering and the house suited us perfectly. The beds are big (super king I think?) and really comfortable. Some of the bedrooms are huge which is ideal if like us you want to set up little beds on the floor for young children to sleep in with you. You’re also spoilt for choice with 3 separate lounge rooms, ideal if you have older kids/teenagers that want to have their own space in the evening. The location of the house is also ideal, just a short walk to Torquay seafront. I also have to mention that the owner was so helpful in contacting us directly with directions to the property before our stay and was so quick to respond when I emailed her a question. On top of this, on our return we realised we had left something at the house and she arranged to have it posted back to us immediately. We will definitely be returning, thank you for a wonderful stay!
