Holiday Cottages In Suffolk

Holiday Cottages in Suffolk

Suffolk may not be an obvious location for a holiday when you put it up against the giants like Cornwall or the Lake District. However, this sleepy corner of Eastern England is ideal for a break away, and the fact that it's not overly touristy really adds to the appeal! There's actually a lot going on in this beautiful part of the world, and as well as boasting miles of stunning coastline it's also packed with picturesque medieval villages, some world class restaurants, and is the home of Newmarket Racecourse – the epicentre of horseracing for this part of the country.

You'll find lots of great Suffolk holiday cottages scattered through this amazing region, so whether you're looking for something conveniently located in the county town of Ipswich, or a rural idyll that's perfect for a romantic getaway, you have plenty of options. Take control over your next break and experience the benefits of holiday cottages in Suffolk, from the comfy beds and roaring fires, to the amazing locations and great attractions.

Things to see on your Suffolk cottage holiday

Suffolk is very varied and includes lots of picturesque towns and villages. It even has its own stretch of coastline. This fascinating place is particularly worth visiting if you have a passion for history. Sutton Hoo, the location of the largest unearthed Saxon burial of its kind, can be found in Suffolk and is where you can experience a full-sized reconstruction of the ship's burial chamber, visit exhibitions, and look through a window into the region's Saxon heritage.

The county of Suffolk is also home to a number of very well preserved castles. Framlingham Castle and Orford Castle are both prime examples and are today run by English Heritage. A visit to these stunning castles is a must if you're traveling with kids and they're both open to visitors and include an audio tour.

As well as rolling hills, incredible historic buildings and beautiful towns and villages, Suffolk also boasts a quality coastline. The most popular beach in Suffolk is south of Claremont Pier in Lowestoft, where you'll find lots going on, including restaurants, cafés and various amusements.

From historic hideaways to super-comfy modern properties, you'll find some excellent holiday cottages in Suffolk, including pet friendly options, cottages with pools and cottages by the coast.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Mr Andrew Fuglesang - Verified booking

A couple of things. Overall we were really impressed. 1. We had no hot water when we arrived on the Saturday. We rang the office on Monday and the response was good but we wasted a day as we had to wait in for the plumber. He was great. Turns out the hot water had been turned off. Not sure why - it would be good if hot water is checked before guests arrive. 2. The TV in the stable had normal channels. However, in the lounge it didn’t. It was plugged into an aerial socket but no freeview etc. You could watch most channels live (but not channel 4) but you had to have accounts and log in to all the apps. Many problems with this. It meant you had to have accounts - we did but my parents who’re in their 80s wouldn’t. You also couldn’t flick between channels which was very annoying and there wasn’t a guide so you didn’t know what was on. Finally, we had to remember to log out of all the apps when we left which was time consuming. There were no reminders to do this. If you left yourself logged in and others used your log in it could cause problems. It was basically a smart TV that hadn’t been connected to an aerial or a freeview box. 3. There were two dirty, smelly cloths left under the sink. Overall, we were really impressed and pleased with the cottage. The water issue was a glitch and I’m sure wouldn’t happen again. However, we do feel the TV issue needs to be rectified, especially as the TV in the stables worked normally. It was very inconvenient!

Beautiful cottage and perfect location to travel around Suffolk. Yoxford is very quiet but the fact they still practice bell ringing and the sound of children playing makes the cottage stand out from the rest. If you have a family car,SUV, minibus you will just manage to get up the lane and there should be just enough room to park. Also the pretty front garden is set away from the house so if you have children or dogs it can be a pain hower there is an area out back which is handy for dogs but not ideal for kids. The conservatory is a bonus and we spent most of our time in there as it is light and airey. The only real issue we had was the cleanliness but I am sure the hosts will be able to address this as they seem to be on the ball. (Also if you have kiddies there is only 1 TV in the main house and 1 in the Stable so maybe bring a tablet to occupy the kids on a rainy day!)

the house was lovely - we wouldn't hesitate to book again or recommend to friends/family. only downside was a lumpy/uncomfortable undersheet in master bedroom. otherwise it was perfect for us (family of two adults, two kids, one dog) - house is spacious but cosy, has all the equipment required, clean, dog friendly open plan arrangement, great showers, fantastic location close (but not too close) to high st and wonderful garden with extensive decking and access to marsh paths at back. would have been good to know in advance of the building work in the empty plot opposite the house (digging foundations for new house) which caused some disruption to parking in street and some noise - but the builders were very friendly, communicative and considerate, so it didn't detract from our week there. the building work may be more disruptive/loud in later stages of construction though.

Pleasant week in a very good location. House is well furnished and we enjoyed the evenings round the fire. Just around the corner from both a local shop and a pub that is now serving meals daily... that said we popped up the road to The Fox in Darsham as we've eaten there before. Also easy to get back to Saxmundham if you need a choice of supermarkets... in our opinion better than the Coop in Halesworth . A word of advise to other dog owners.though... yes the house is suitable, and there is a rear courtyard, but the front garden access is shared and is open to the road, so the dogs could not be let off the lead in the front garden. BUT, within a 100 yards round the side of the bowling club and you've miles of paths across the fields. So a mild inconvenience, but worth being aware.

  • Mr Rose - Verified booking

Beautifully converted barn, situated in lovely gardens, with a countryside view. Short, 5 minute walk to the village centre, with a great butcher's shop, Co-op and pub. Plenty of walks nearby including at the nearby reservoir, River Orwell and River Stour. Ipswich is only a 15 minute drive away and the coastal towns of Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Orford, Aldeburgh and Southwold are all easily accessible for a daytrip. Venturing inland you have the interesting towns of Lavenham, Cavendish and Bury St Edmunds. The house itself has 3 double bedrooms, a great kitchen / dining and living area, as well as a nice patio with garden furniture. Overall a great place to stay and enjoy the Suffolk / North Essex countryside with friends and or family!
