Large Cottages in Conwy

Plan your perfect break with large holiday homes in Conwy

Situated on the northern edge of Wales sits the beautiful historic town of Conwy.

Conwy is one of the UK's best-preserved medieval towns, with ancient walls, narrow cobbled streets and quirky lanes packed with historic buildings.

If you're looking for a destination in the UK for a group trip, then Conwy ticks all the right boxes. Our collection of handpicked big cottages in Conwy makes the perfect base for visiting this beautiful area in North Wales. Choose from rustic barns, pebble-dash cottages, elegant houses and sprawling manors.

Whatever requirements you might have for your group accommodation, at Big Cottages, we'll make sure you find it. We have plenty of other areas that you can book in Wales too. From picturesque cottages in Tenby town to Pembrokeshire, we'll find the right place for you.

Why choose Conwy for your group getaway?

As well as being the perfect base to explore Snowdonia National Park, Anglesey and the North Wales Coast, Conwy is a jewel that offers a full itinerary all on its own.

This medieval harbour town is picture-perfect and sits along the north coast, near the Conwy River. Its pretty narrow streets are cobble and stone-lined and sit within the dramatic shadow of the impressive castle that sits on a rocky outcrop.

The origins of Conwy date back to the 1200s and there is a lot of history waiting to be discovered, the most popular of which being the magnificent Conwy Castle.

This remarkable stone fortress and the town walls were built in the 13th century by the order of King Edward I. As the King attempted to take control of the whole of the UK, there was much resistance by the North Wales population and battles soon commenced. Due to this, King Edward decided to build several castles in North Wales to act as an iron ring and Conwy Castle was one of them.

The castle is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you can enjoy everything it has to offer from its towers, rooms and spiral staircases as well amazing views over the town, harbour, mountains and Snowdonia National Park.

For a spot of opulence, head to the 16th-century Plas Mawr townhouse on the high street. This beautiful house is said to be the finest standing house of its era and you can see how the wealthy merchant Robert Wynn lived in his wonderful Elizabethan home.

Watch the world go by at Conwy Marina and Quay. Grab some fresh fish and chips or a pint at one of the pubs, marvel at the Quay House, the smallest house in Britain and enjoy a gentle stroll while you take in the wonderful views. In the summer, you can even watch boat racing at the annual Conwy River Festival.

For an epic family day out, visit the Conwy Nature Reserve. You'll be treated to birds of all shapes and sizes, and they usually hold activities and events to get stuck into such as bird watching, guided walks and farmers markets.

If you fancy taking it a bit easy, head to Bodnant Garden, one of Wales' best gardens and wander around the lawns, intimate corners, stunning ponds, pretty terraces, wooded valley and stream. You can see plants and flowers from all over the world and it is a lovely activity for all ages.

Fifteen minutes away is Llandudno, the largest seaside resort in Wales. There's an award-winning beach complete with a Victorian pier as well as donkey rides on the sand, plenty of ice cream and seaside treats and a Punch and Judy show in the summer months.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Lydia - Verified booking

Stunning views and good facilities at this property; however, the standard of cleanliness was disappointing.

Upon arrival, my husband and I noted floors and surfaces were not clean. We spent time wiping down the kitchen due to dirty tea stains and leftover food and bathrooms due to hair and bodily fluids still being on toilets. We also had to hoover the floors due to dead flies and food items being missed by the cleaners. When booking the property, we had requested toddler essentials. We were surprised to find that both the cot and high chair were particularly filthy. This was quite upsetting as we had no choice to put our baby in this equipment throughout the week. My husband and I spent a long time scrubbing these items with anti-bacterial wipes and Milton wipes but the items were still incredibly stained. After we finished cleaning, I emailed the owner of the property to inform her we had spent the first few hours of our holiday cleaning and to suggest that cleaners check toddler essentials when they are requested, but I have yet to receive a response. Other things to note: - Hoover does not have a hose that works which you can use to hoover stairs and hard to reach places. - One of the hairdryers does not work, luckily there was another in the property. - So many parked cars on the road making it difficult to manoeuvre on and off the drive.

The location of the property is excellent and the views are to die for.

The whole house was neat n tidy except a dirty microwave. The living room was spacious which was great as I had two young kids who could play around. There were some toys as well which my kids enjoyed playing with. However, there were some minor issues. On our arrival, we found that the microwave was not properly cleaned. So I had to clean it as it was late night to couldn’t call anyone. The next morning I contacted Sykes and the owner called me back and apologised and told me to let her know if there is any more issue which was nice of her. Few crockeries were chipped. There was no extra kitchen bin liner so I had to buy. The upstairs bathroom had wooden floor but only one mat in front of the toilet seat so standing in front of the sink felt cold and uncomfortable. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

I stayed at this property at the end of August with 9 other family members and our dog for our mums 70th.

On arrival the house was spotless, lovely and warm and nicky had left us some lovely supplies along with a birthday card, a lovely touch. The house is fully equipped for all needs and has a great utility room which was perfect for storing dogs bowls etc and muddy shoes. There is also a piano in the hall which my daughter enjoyed playing. There was so much space for us all and a nice enclosed garden for the dog. There is a hot tub but we didn't use it on our visit. The location was perfect for us , a short drive into conwy and a lovely pub 0.5miles where we had a beautiful Sunday roast. I highly recommend this property and would definitely book again if we had any family celebrations. 10/10

Lovely bungalow with lots of room.

Clean and tidy, however there were several areas which need a lot of attention. The kitchen is described as well equipped; the pans need replacing (this could because the one jcloth supplied could not tackle the caked on grime left by previous visitors); the mugs and plates are a mismatched assortment; the cutlery was two sets of of adult size and a set of six pairs of flimsy children's cutlery. There were no Pyrex or microwave bowls so Microwave cooker was obsolete The beds were comfortable but the pillows should have been replaced a long time ago. For the amount we paid we expected a much better equipped holiday home.

We had a really relaxing, enjoyable stay in the cottage.

Wendy greeted us on arrival and was very welcoming. She provided a lot of extras such as milk, jam, biscuits, tea and coffee, toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets and washing pods which was a lovely touch. The cottage itself was far more spacious than we had expected. There were freshly washed bed sheets and towels and we all slept really well. We were lucky to have sunshine on the first day and enjoyed sitting at the front of the house with a glass of wine, watching a glorious sunset. We would definitely recommend this cottage for a family break in north Wales. Thank you Wendy
