Northumberland is steeped in history with many imposing castles to explore including Alnwick Castle made famous by the Harry Potter movies and the striking Bamburgh Castle built high on a rocky outcrop. The quiet lanes are perfect for cyclists and walkers to soak up the stunning landscapes and perhaps catch a glimpse of the remarkable array of wildlife including red squirrels, roe deer, wild goats, otters and black grouse.

The Duke was a well equipped house with great downstairs living space. Generous bedrooms each with great en-suites. The tennis court, table tennis, space for football were a great hit with our teenagers. It was disappointing that the bedroom configuration specified on the booking form had been overlooked. So we had to call up (on hold for 10 mins and cut off twice due to poor phone signal) to ask it was rectified to two twin rooms not 2 doubles for 4 teenagers. After another call, this was prioritised and resolved that evening. Thank you. The stair gate was also missing which we requested due to our dogs. One was provided that night but it didn’t fit properly and was inadequate. If we had had toddlers it would have been dangerous as it fell down multiple times every day. More attention to detail on setting up house as per booking details is required. We would stay again but would hope these points would be addressed for future guests.

Beautiful spacious property, with high end finishes. Properly equipped property everything you could possibly need was thought of. Really good information and welcome folders, Fab welcome gift with extra touches, free game of golf on the local courses, a shared gym and tennis court, great places to eat, The Apple Inn in particular was amazing, easy walk to the village and beautiful golden sands.

Standard of cleaniness was terrible,no stairgate for baby,s requested,when one was provided parts missing. Bedding stained and black hair all over covers.,provided with new bedding to make beds up ourselves,not much better.Oven roasting dishes put away covered in grease,new ones supplied but to big for oven.over all very dusty ad we needed to clean floors ourself,also bath was not cleaned properly. Very disappointed in the whole experience,would not recommend, given the cost of The Duke expected a much higher standard.
