What our customers say about their holidays

  • Olivia W - Verified booking

Eastfield enjoys a spectacular location overlooking, and with easy access to, the beach.

There are gorgeous, and ever-changing views towards Dunstanburgh Castle from the living and kitchen areas, as well as the large double bedroom. The house is extremely well-equipped, and mostly, when you need something practical (eg a light bulb, a sewing kit, a measuring tape, a pair of scissors or screwdriver..) you will find it in the labelled boxes. There is also a selection of books and board games. The kitchen has just about everything you could need - though we would have liked a tea cosy and maybe a slightly smaller cafetiere! It is nice to be provided with more crockery, cutlery and glassware than strictly necessary for the number of people - don't have to wash up quite as often! It is a perfect house for anyone with mobility problems, as an annexe, equipped with adjustable bed and hoist as well as a large walk-in wet room - with wheelchair suitable for taking in the shower, is accessed via a ramp from the garden. In the living room, the window table is perfect for jigsaws - also provided. Underfloor heating and good insulation makes for a very comfortable temperature throughout the house. We were there during the extremely cold and blustery winds, as well as snow flurries caused by Storm Ciara, but indoors we kept cosy all the time. There is a good supply of hot water for baths and showers. The warm utility room is great for drying clothes and shoes quickly too. This is an ideal house for a gathering of family and/or friends of different ages and mobility. (If you need to take a vehicle right down to the beach for an elderly person, there is a disabled space at the bottom of the road. We also didn't have a problem driving her right to the door of the Ship for a pub lunch!

    Lets start positive.

...Great location!!! Plenty of drawers and hanging space in downstairs bedroom. Bedding and towels spotless. Kitchen really well equipped but some crockery needs replacing as really scratched and some chipped. We had to buy flutes for prosecco and there were only 4 wine glasses none that matched (we are comparing this to a sykes cottage we stayed in earlier this year) Good to see an EV charging point Downstairs bed not comfortable and pillows very high and hard. Pillows also hard and high in twin bedroom. Our other guests in the upstairs double had no complaints. This is a personal preference but it is tricky watching TV after someone has retired for the evening as the seating area is directly underneath the bedroom. I dont think the lounge seating area is adequate or comfortable for 6 adults and the concrete hearth was an awful trip hazard. Lots of black mould in downstairs bathroom around the bath, loose toilet seat in downstairs bathroom One of the blinds was completely broken in the upstairs double bedroom and we had to buy black bin bags and tape to do a makeshift blind but it kept falling off because of the heat (weather is not your fault). The clothes maiden could do with replacing and we did not have pegs for the washing line I dont really think the garden space is comfortable. There is a large dead tree in the corner which needs removing We took photos of the blind in the bedroom and also of a couple of filthy greasy trays that had been left (we did dishwash them but I ended up buying a new tray). Happy to share the photos if you can provide email address Hope this helps Kind regards

The cottage had the following issues; 1.

The central heating was poor. The system was powered by a dual fuel burner in the living room. The burner was dirty, filled the house with dust when cleaned out & failed to heat the house, even when burning well. The upstairs radiators never went past tepid. The fact that the downstairs was fitted with electric heaters that were locked at 10 degrees, proved that the heating system was not fit for purpose. 2. The shower room was freezing cold, as it was only fiited with an electric towel rail which never got to a point where it was hot to the touch. Also the electric shower (which did work) was not powerful enough to heat the air whilst you had a shower. So showering was an unpleasent experience. 3. The decour was tired and the bedding that was provided was only fit for summer use. Also the matresses were uncomfortable and sweaty. 4. The television was smaller than the one shown in the listing. 5. The listing claimed that the cottage had WiFi. This was untrue, there is a landline but no modem. 6. The house was not clean, certainly not to a standard you would expect having paid £1065 for the week.

We stayed here in late August with families with young children.

The pictures did not do the place justice, it is a huge property and so well equipped. And an ideal location to set off on coastal walks. The kitchen was full of all the essentials. Having sky sports and Netflix in the lounge room went down well, and there were enough wetsuits and boogie boards for us all to use. Very clean and well kept, Bridget and her husband were super friendly and helpful. However, the views down to the sea are not highlighted enough. Really spectacular. The walk down to the beach is about 20 mins, but really is worth it. Also perfect for running…. I ran along the beach up to the ship inn and back along the the coastal path each morning (about 5K). It is a short 5 min walk into Embleton where there is a decent village shop with a deli, while the restaurant in the nearby Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel is superb. Couldn’t recommend enough (book ahead). Local pub also friendly and good selection of local ales. Would also recommend the nearby pizza place ‘Embers’ a short 5 min drive away. In short, this place is a gem. We shall be back. Linton (London)

A week here was thoroughly enjoyed.

Below is the Pros & Cons which we have gathered while staying here. Pros: Comfortable Beds Pet friendly Well equipped (Washing Machine) Enclosed garden Easy access to top sights in Northumberland (Transport Required) but not too busy in the local area Nice view from the top windows Private parking on site (plus electric car PodPoint) Cons: Some Decor needs updating; paint marks, scratches and broken ornaments etc. bird poo on lounge focal point canvas & chipped crockery No toilet roll holders Blind in upstairs bedroom broken (woken up by bright sunlight daily) Living room furniture only big enough for 4 Cleanliness could be a little better Water pressure isn’t the best (only good enough for one shower etc) Shower head needs changing Bin bags are cheap and broke when moving Label bins to show which is recycling Upstairs bed sticks out too much to walk round (because of the sloping roof) so be careful of your shins getting hit All in all a nice week here and with these cons being addressed we would gladly stay again. :)
