  An outstanding traditional property with original features that offers everything you need. The bathrooms are spacious and quite new, with lots of very hot water and great water pressure we fought for the upstairs shower! Great to have the option to have twin beds, a rarity. With the beautifully rustic open fires lit Thorns is very cosy, with a home from home fee. We loved all the personal items giving character and personality. It is traffic free and so peaceful with stunning views of Wensleydale from every window. Guests were staying at the neighbouring properties did not disturb us - due to thick walls and offset parking. Supplies and equipment are well considered, we especially appreciated the fire lighters, kindling and logs. Agree with others, much better than it looks in the pictures, We left the cars at Thorns and enjoyed three different walks every day from the property. We walked into delightful Hawes for our evening meals - took head torches as it is so dark! Many thanks for the extras - cheese and cake, a lovely gesture and yummy! Overall we had a lovely stay Thorns is comfortable, peaceful and very well equipped.

  Spotlessly clean on our arrival, the caretaker was even waiting for us to arrive to introduce herself and make sure if we had any concerns we knew how to contact her, first class service. The property was wonderfully situated, very well equipped, warm, comfortable and the bathrooms were outstanding, all quality fixtures and fittings, even down to the denby tableware. The large garden was great for the kids to let off steam and with so many walks right from the doorstep we were never short of anything to do. The fact the property is surrounded by fields and well away from any roads meant it was quiet and we could allow the children to wander freely, oh and the views! We had such a wonderful stay that we are planning to return the same week next year.

  Great cottage.Grandson walked in and said Yay!’ Fits 4 very comfortably. Good decor and very well appointed for white goods/TV etc. Good and peaceful location with great views. (loudest sound was sheep on nearby hill). Lovely stream walk near cottage. Easy (c 1 mile) drive into Hawes which has good facilities. Perfect save for one v minor niggle: changing Freesat and DVD and back needs clearer instructions in handbook (e.g. press Home on TV remote; go to TV icon at bottom left; go to menu bar above; press ‘Source’; go to HDMI 1 or go to HDMI 2 for DVD. Sounds simple but takes 45 minutes to work out from scratch!). In all 10/10. Exceeded expectations. Will certainly book with Yorkshire Cottages next time we want a holiday in Yorkshire.

  The Yorkshire Dales are absolutely beautiful and Thorns is set in the perfect location with beautiful countryside views from every room & yet just a 5 minute walk into the pretty market town of Hawes. Both the front and back gardens get the sun which was an excellent bonus. Thorns is traditionally furnished and has everything you need to live comfortably and to cook at home, however, is so close to Hawes that you can easily eat out if you want to and Hawes has some great pubs and eateries. We eat in The White Hart Inn, 1668 Restaurant and Board Inn all very different types of cuisine to one another and all very delicious. We had an amazing holiday, everything about it was perfect ... we will return.

  Excellent. We went low season so we got a very good rate (thank you). The kitchen does have everything you could possibly need and then some. That Delonghi coffee maker is brilliant. The owners have really focused on the attention to detail with maps, games, smart TV, Christmas decorations and a tree. Weather was very cold outside but the cottage was warm and efficient. Some great walks nearby and easy walking (mostly off road) to Hawes and Hardraw. Dog loved it and we all felt at home. Been coming to Hawes for 25 years and this is far and away the best cottage for value, quality and comfort.
