  This cottage (well house really) is beautiful inside. It was very clean and spacious and warm (thank you!) and very well equipped. Lovely kitchen and bathrooms. Super views fron all the windows and all very quiet. Our only criticism of the cottage is that the mattress on the bed in the main bedroom is very hard - we couldn't cope with it as it gave us so many aches and pains. We gave up in the end and used the other double room which was fine. Luckily there were only two of us so we had options. From the cottage it is an easy short walk to four great pubs, several good eating places and the best chippie we've been to in a long while. There is a Spar shop and another very nice grocers, a butcher and bakers shop. Wensleydale Creamery is on the doorstep which has a nice shop and cafe and does tours. The Dales Museum is very good too. We had lovely weather and did some super walks - two from the cottage up Whether and Straggs Fells and others a short drive away. There's loads to do here - we went on a tour of the Black Sheep brewery, to Middleham Castle, Ingleton waterfalls, Aysgarth Falls and Semer Water but there are many other options - it really is a great centre for a holiday.

  An outstanding traditional property with original features that offers everything you need. The bathrooms are spacious and quite new, with lots of very hot water and great water pressure we fought for the upstairs shower! Great to have the option to have twin beds, a rarity. With the beautifully rustic open fires lit Thorns is very cosy, with a home from home fee. We loved all the personal items giving character and personality. It is traffic free and so peaceful with stunning views of Wensleydale from every window. Guests were staying at the neighbouring properties did not disturb us - due to thick walls and offset parking. Supplies and equipment are well considered, we especially appreciated the fire lighters, kindling and logs. Agree with others, much better than it looks in the pictures, We left the cars at Thorns and enjoyed three different walks every day from the property. We walked into delightful Hawes for our evening meals - took head torches as it is so dark! Many thanks for the extras - cheese and cake, a lovely gesture and yummy! Overall we had a lovely stay Thorns is comfortable, peaceful and very well equipped.

  Spotlessly clean on our arrival, the caretaker was even waiting for us to arrive to introduce herself and make sure if we had any concerns we knew how to contact her, first class service. The property was wonderfully situated, very well equipped, warm, comfortable and the bathrooms were outstanding, all quality fixtures and fittings, even down to the denby tableware. The large garden was great for the kids to let off steam and with so many walks right from the doorstep we were never short of anything to do. The fact the property is surrounded by fields and well away from any roads meant it was quiet and we could allow the children to wander freely, oh and the views! We had such a wonderful stay that we are planning to return the same week next year.

  The Yorkshire Dales are absolutely beautiful and Thorns is set in the perfect location with beautiful countryside views from every room & yet just a 5 minute walk into the pretty market town of Hawes. Both the front and back gardens get the sun which was an excellent bonus. Thorns is traditionally furnished and has everything you need to live comfortably and to cook at home, however, is so close to Hawes that you can easily eat out if you want to and Hawes has some great pubs and eateries. We eat in The White Hart Inn, 1668 Restaurant and Board Inn all very different types of cuisine to one another and all very delicious. We had an amazing holiday, everything about it was perfect ... we will return.

  The house is comfortable and spacious and in a great location in Hawes. The parking is good. There is no Wi-Fi in the house. The games provided were appreciated. We had a good week there despite the mixed weather. We had a good bar meal at The Fountain and a very enjoyable meal at the White Hart Inn. The fish and chips were good and you can try the tasty deep fried Wensleydale cheese. The Dales Museum is really interesting and worth a visit as is Gayle Mill, open only on Thursdays. Hawes is a a lovely place to explore
