Holiday Cottages In Sandsend

This small fishing village is a charming place for a relaxing break. With its proximity to a large sandy beach and the beautiful town of Whitby, we can see why it is so well loved. All in all, this is an idyllic location for a cottage holiday.

Whether you're after bracing winter walks, lounging in the sun or splashing about in the waves, the beach at Sandsend is an enjoyable place at any time of year. Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors visitors will have the whole of this wonderful National Park on their doorsteps. It would be easy to spend your whole break in the peace and tranquillity of this village but if you want to venture further afield the cultural delights of Whitby are just around the corner.

Where coastline meets countryside, Sandsend enjoys a world-class position on Yorkshire's heritage coast. Gorgeous terracotta rooftops against lush green trees, our Sandsend holiday cottages are right in the thick of this coastal quaintness, lapping up their prime time views of the North York Moors. And if you're not there for the beach, you'll definitely want to go for the Sandside Cafe, a place to enjoy scones by the seaside and have some much needed R&R.

When the sun is out, Sandsend turns into an English seaside resort to rival even the best of the south west. We have a cosy cluster of Sansend holiday cottages right on the coast, some with unspoilt views of the water beyond. In wistful Whitby, this is one of Yorkshire's best loved staycation destinations, meaning you'll have your pick of the very best holiday cottages. Enjoy award winning restaurants, the Mulgrave Woods and remains of the old Mulgrave Castle, the lovely St Mary's Church, plus many more great Whitby attractions whilst you're there!

What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage itself is excellent and we enjoyed our stay.

It is comfortable and well equipped. The location is great. It is against all the many positives that with regret I am leaving what may be seen as negative feedback. I am sorry to do this. The main thing for me was that the cottage was not as clean as I would expect. There were large dusty cobwebs in the living room around the furniture and lamps and across the window and in one of the bedrooms. It is the only time I can recall having to reach for a feather duster shortly after arrival. The floor was not properly clean. A highchair had been left out and there was dirt around it and just under the cupboard and other furniture. Worse still there were lots of large cobwebs hanging in two of the base cupboards and immediately hanging down as you opened the doors. You couldn’t get into the cupboard. Feather dusting kitchen cupboards was a first for me. Some of the crockery was dirty and had not been checked. The two frying pans need replacing. They both stick horribly as the non stick surface has worn off. The handle on one wobbles so much it feels like it will fall off. The side panels of the bath are dirty and need cleaning. The bathroom door is very swollen and sticks horribly. It needs to be freed. The bathroom is otherwise really well fitted with quality appliances and a good shower. It is such a pity. The toilet brush was broken and unusable with the handle completely detached. How did the cleaners not notice? The absence of a useable toilet brush was unacceptable. I am really sorry to have to give what will seem like negative comments. I really didn’t want to do this. The cottage is great but the quality of cleaning detracted from it. We felt the cottage and owners were let down by this.

We stayed at Rigg Cottage over the Easter weekend 2022.

A family of 4 with 2 dogs we needed somewhere dog friendly. The cottage was clean and tidy on arrival, with everything we needed for the weekend. The living room was cosy and well laid out, and the dining room / kitchen had everything you needed to be home from home. There was sufficient space also for our 2 dog crates after turning the dining table 90°. Outside space was fine for an enclosed garden, with a clothes horse under the stairs for outside drying and out house where we found the outside freezer (not used) and a couple of body boards the kids had a session on at the beach. The front bedroom was quite spacious even with a double and a single in there, the back room with the double I’d say was a little cosy but not an issue. The bathroom was well presented and the bath / shower were fine. The shower you had to gently adjust to get a fine line between too hot and cold, but once mastered no issue. Nothing I haven’t experienced before in hotels. Great to have the off-road parking too, that really helps. Location was perfect, literally 100 yards from the beach and very close to the pub and seafood restaurant which were both spot on. There’s a small shop around the bay, just check opening times. All in all we loved it and would have no hesitations in staying again. If I had to highlight and feedback for improvements I’d say I was a little nervous of the back fence and the potential for this to be jumped - not that my dogs did. Other than that I’ve really nothing negative to add. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed at the Beachcrest from 25/11/22 for one week for my husband's 65th birthday, our children and grandchildren also stayed with us.

The house was spotlessly clean and very well equipped for large families. There were plenty of pots and pans for cooking and a range oven, if you wanted to cook meals instead of eating out during your stay. The house is well located, only a 2 minute walk to the beach and a pleasant walk into Whitby town centre. There is also a hotel across the road, which has a bar and serves meals, if you do not fancy cooking, they also sell pizzas to take out. The owner had made the property very homely and there was a Christmas tree up when we arrived, he also left us complementary Tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits. There is a lovely garden, which if staying there during the summer months would be a lovely space to spend sunny afternoons. There is also a hot tub in the garden, which we did utilise during our stay, which was a nice extra touch. The only small negative comment I would make about this property was, it had a beautiful kitchen that as a family we spent a lot of family time in there and during the evenings it was not very private. There are 3 windows in the kitchen, and one is directly opposite the hotel, so people coming and going would constantly look straight in as the light was on. There was also no blind at the downstairs bathroom window. Apart from these 2 small things, the house was amazing and I would definitely recommend staying there. A beautiful home.

The property is situated in a perfect location 2 minutes from Sandsend sea front.

You do need to climb a few steps to get there though the quaint cottages in the location. On entering the property you enter the kitchen and living room area which are spacious and very well equipped with everything you would need on holiday, including a washing machine, dish washer, slow cooker and coffee pod machine. There are three bedrooms on the next two levels and one bathroom on level two and an en suite on level three. You can see the sea from level three. The beds were very comfy! The garden is levelled and a lovely space with a sea view from the top of the garden. We watched the sun rise from here on one of the days. The property is in a perfect location and you can see Whitby Abbey in the distance. There is a lovely Wits End Cafe 2 minutes one way and The Hart Inn pub 2 minutes the other way. There is on road parking but this is limited, although we were lucky every day that we stayed and managed to get a space. There is a public car park only a minute away though. Unsure of charges. In all I would recommend this property but do think it would benefit from a deep Clean to freshen it up. No complaints from us and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Whitby.

We had an excellent break in a fantastic property.

The owners were very welcoming as we arrived, taking time to show us around the property and give us tips on the local area. The property has recently been refurbished top to bottom and is fitted out to a really high standard. Not something we expected to find (or spend any time in!) but the hot tub was definitely a highlight for us all :-) As a group of five we really benefited from the communal space and being able to find our own space (the games/cinema room downstairs). More practical things; the washing machine, dishwasher, two showers, off road parking for two cars and really generous storage space downstairs really suited our group who were out and about on the North Yorks coast. It's a short and easy walk to the centre of Whitby (about 10-15 minutes) and even less to the beach. If you don't fancy venturing that far then the local pub is just a minute away and does a great Sunday roast :-) I would strongly recommend this property to any groups or larger families looking for a break in Whitby.
