Woods Barn sleeping up to 6 guests

Located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this cottage is an ideal holiday base for exploring the peaceful countryside.
The beautiful hamlet of Beckermonds is positioned in the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This detached holiday cottage makes an ideal retreat from everyday life, being one of only five dwellings in this secluded location. Beckermonds, from the ‘Old Norse’, means the ‘meeting of the streams’. It is here, at the confluence of Oughtershaw and Greenfield becks, that the River Wharfe starts its journey through Langstrothdale, into Upper Wharfedale and then continues to define one of the most celebrated dales. Right outside the door are memorable walking opportunities set amid breath-taking scenery, as well as private fly fishing nearby (trout, free of charge, Mar-Sep). The private, enclosed, dog friendly, west facing garden is a glorious sun trap on summer evenings, from where you can expect to see rare red squirrels and a variety of wildlife.
Contained within a 5-mile easy walking radius, you will find three quintessential dales pubs. Why not visit them together in an 11-mile circuit walk? The market town of Hawes is only 7 miles away and offers shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, banks and a chemist, as well as a traditional British fish and chip restaurant. Hawes is also the home to the famous Hawes Creamery, makers of Wallace and Gromits favourite Wensleydale cheese. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
This property can be booked together with East House Farm (UK2213) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at S15175! The cottage was just beautiful and very well equipped, even more than we expected it to be. There was everything we needed, including well stocked kitchen cupboards with all the essentials like herbs and spices which was a lovely touch. The welcome basket with wine, bread, milk and a few little chocolates was a lovely start to our stay. The kitchen had every appliance you could need including a slow cooker and a cafetière! The living room was cosy with the log burner and the master bedroom was huge with a super-comfy king size bed! The garden was beautiful but at this time of year we didn’t actually use it. The location is very rural and very peaceful which was just what we wanted. We loved the folder that Joe and Diane has prepared with lots and lots of helpful information about local walks and places to visit. We did the ‘legendary walk to the pub’ and wouldn’t have dared without the great instructions in the folder. The cottage is very remote you have to be happy to walk or have a car to get to it and then out and about to other local villages and towns. The folder helped us choose some lovely places to visit; Hawes, Grassington and Skipton. We also enjoyed the morning dog walk along the river each day with our dog Mabel and she loved exploring! We couldn’t fault S15175 and would love to stay again, maybe in the summer to make the most of all the beautiful walks in the longer days. Thank you Joe and Diane, we had a wonderful stay!"

"Really enjoyed our stay. The barn was really nice and well equipped. Good quality fittings and furnishings nicely presented. Consideration for the dogs too..little biscuits for them on arrival not to mention the wine and goodies for us ...The only reason for a low score on local amenities was because the nearest place was Hawes....so I wasn't classing it as local but a great place to go...the garden was neat and tidy...everything was perfect...even the weather"
    Andrew – 19 Nov 2018
"Absolutely loved our stay at 'S15175'. Beautiful scenery, so quiet and peaceful with excellent wildlife watching opportunities. The cottage has everything you could need for your stay, the owners have thought of everything....right down to a special towel for our dog. A lovely welcome pack too, and once again our little dog wasn't left out of this either with treats included for her too. A lovely comfy cottage which we would recommend to all...….if you love peace, tranquillity, wildlife watching and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside then you'll love this special cottage."

"Lovely place beautiful location.cottage very nicely set out and welcoming"
    Anne – 17 Oct 2018
"A great place to stay in a beautiful area. Very comfortable and full of character. The property was really well equipped and we were made to feel really welcome. The food and drink provided as part of the welcome pack was a lovely touch as was the wood and coal for the fire (lasting us over two evenings). Everything had been thought of from the well equipped kitchen to spare batteries, picnic basket and cool box, plenty of toilet rolls, to torches in the bedrooms."
    Noel – 23 Sep 2018
"Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. lots of wildlife in the garden including a weasel that ran through most days, we did see one squirrel but only briefly. Tawny owls heard at night. Bats flying around most nights. Large variety of garden birds including chaffinch, wren, nuthatch, greater spotted woodpecker to name a few. Well placed for local attractions, so many waterfalls you are spoilt for choice. A walkers paradise, with many on your doorstep. Great views of stars and the milky way on clear nights. Would definitely stay here again."
    Susan – 12 Sep 2018
"Well equipped cottage, but I think it will be chilly in the winter. The living room is full of character with an inglenook fireplace but we had trouble getting heat from the multi fuelled burner and there is only one small electric heater in the same room, and due to only having three small windows, is rather dark. Upstairs is a lot warmer and brighter. Nice bathroom and lovely bedrooms, but just the one toilet, so queues could form if a few people were there at once. Wasn’t too happy though that the caretaker paid the cottage a visit while we were out!"
    Katie – 19 Aug 2018
"We had a great time despite the weather. The cottage is charming and comfortable. We were particularly impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was.Brilliant location, very happy kids, dog and parents."

"Loved the peaceful setting and seeing so much wildlife, including the red squirrel in the garden. Great welcome and meal at The George in Hubberholme. Lovely, comfortable cottage with lots of character. Would definitely stay here again."
    Caroline – 7 Apr 2018
"A fabulous hide away, remember to take everything you need as the location is so remote. Walking from the doorstep, excellent pub and landlord at The George pubWould return"
    Ali – 18 Mar 2018
"Beautiful location and beautiful cottage although it was cold. And also the throws on the chairs were filthy and needed washing."
    Nancy – 24 Feb 2018
"Beautiful cottage in a stunning location with great walks from the doorstep. Owner had thought of everything, extremely well equipped and comfortable cottage. We would love to stay again. Doesn't seem fair to mark it down for local amenities, as the remoteness was one of the reasons we chose it."
    Judith – 28 Jan 2018
"Only given a 5 for local amenities because it was a very snowy weekend when we stayed so didn't want to drive. Both pubs within a 5 mile walk were closed when we got to them due to time of year (January). We had taken plenty of food with us so it wasn't really a problem. For us the fact that the Barn is off the beaten track was one of the things that attracted us to it. It really is a get away from it all place but could easily drive into Buckden or Kettlewell if desired we just didn't want to drive in the snow and enjoyed the walk."
    Amanda – 21 Jan 2018
"There was 6 of us in my group who where there to enjoy a hen weekend . The cottage was comfortable and homely. Beds were comfy . Local amenities there isn't any but what else would expect when being in the middle of beautiful countryside . We got a very welcoming atmosphere when walked in has there was fresh flowers, wine, biscuits, bread and dog treats left on the table . We took a beautiful walk with the dog along the river and the scenery was beautiful . We all said that we would stay again ."
