Large Holiday Homes Scotland

Something special lives inside the Scottish borders. A quiet, mist-covered charm that you won’t find anywhere else. One look at Scotland’s stunning views and it’s easy to see why it was voted the most beautiful country in the world a few years ago. From the gentle sparkle that dances over the top of Loch Ness, to the whispering wind that blows across Ben Nevis, Britain’s most northerly nation is home to a Celtic magic that makes every holiday in Scotland unique and unforgettable.

It’s an experience that doesn’t sound like it could get any better. That is, of course, until we tell you where you could be staying. If you’re looking to grab hold of your special someone and leave the rest of the world behind, then head to the Highlands. Rough, wild and brimming with natural beauty, it’s a place where stunning castles and incredible legends lurk amongst thick trees.

For culture, class and hundreds of award-winning restaurants, there’s no better place to be than Edinburgh. Or if you're travelling with the little ones, Dumfries and Galloway is ideal for families. What our customers say about their holidays

The former farm buildings are beautifully renovated and were actually larger than we expected, decor was well thought of.

The cottage was cleaned and sanitised to an exceptionally high standard and the communication we received from Isobel and her team immediately put our minds at ease prior to our stay. We arranged for online groceries to be delivered prior to our arrival and these were very kindly put away for us. The surrounding area was tranquil and very picturesque, the property is surrounded by sprawling countryside with stunning views for miles. We all enjoyed early mornings sitting outside reading whilst listening to the birds and the children loved watching the rabbits play on the nearby field. The property had a particularly large mature garden which the children (and the adults!) enjoyed playing in. Due to my son shielding we cooked most meals in the large kitchen; having the Rangemaster was fantastic as the children also spent a day baking. The Nespresso machine and varied assortment of pods was also an unexpected nicety -appreciated by everyone! The huge Gin Gan style living room was perfect for two families, we played board games, cards and watched movies. Bedrooms were well spaced apart and the configurations worked well. The bed were super comfortable and bed linen seemed of a very high quality (infact we took a photo of the label of the gorgeous mattress topper to order one ourselves). The cottage is perfectly situated between two small towns and a lovely walk to Gleneagles. Locally we enjoyed Argate Red Kites and squirrel feeding, Sterling and Duone Castles. Not too far away from Aviemore so we took a picnic up to Nethy Bridge and hand fed wild Coal Tits in the forest (well worth the two hour drive!). This really was a perfect holiday cottage, as well having a warm welcoming atmosphere the wonderful owners live near so were on hand to help save the day when we realised we'd forgotten baking powder (pretty essential for baking day!). It definitely ticked boxes for everyone, a perfect place to unwind and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Jubilee Cottage in Uig is simply stunning.

We had a week there and were blessed with wall to wall sunshine which allowed us to not only make the best use of the cottage but also the surrounding area which is quite beautiful and great for exploring. There were very few midges about when we were there (end of May, early June) as the sea breeze kept them away. Having said that, even when there was no breeze we noticed very few, so if that is something you are worried about (I was) then it wasn't a problem for us. In all honesty, the pictures don't do the cottage or its location full justice. Its located at the end of a road, so no passing traffic and almost no one walking past on the beach. It's perfectly quiet with the only passing traffic (which is very little) being the boats out in the bay. The ferry only docks 3 times a day and is well out in the bay so not intrusive in any way. in fact we loved watching them. We saw plenty of wildlife looking out of the window, including many birds fishing in the bay, seals and a pod of porpoises (or dolphins). Make sure you pack a pair (or two) of binoculars as our evenings consisted of sitting looking out to sea, seeing what we could spot. We've got two kids and a dog who were free to roam with no problems at all, with them all loving the beach. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating and helped with recommendations on where to visit, but weren't intrusive at all (they live next door). All in all, I can't recommend it highly enough and I'd like to think we'll revisit at some stage. Its a very relaxing cottage in a stunning location, which I can't fault in any way. We loved it and were sad to leave. Fantastic - book now!

    Location is excellent.

Property is clean and well appointed. Generally a nice place to stay. One small bathroom so this may be an issue for larger parties staying in this property. Surrounding area is very nice. Gardens are "enclosed". They are not secure. Small dogs can easily get through the fences and a large job could get over the fence. Adjoining fields do sometime have sheep- therefore if you are taking dogs you need to take additional precautions to make sure your pets don't escape or worry nearby sheep. When we arrived the fence to the adjoining property (they also had a large dog) was falling apart. I asked the owner, who also runs the adjoining campsite, to address this issue. He accused me of breaking the fence myself and he became very rude and was very put out by my request to fix it. He felt the garden was completely secure and I explained to him that this wasn't the case. His attitude was quite disgusting. To illustrate my point, the owners own dogs often found their way into the garden of this property and defaecated several times- I had to pick this up myself to make sure my daughter didn't step in it. Overall we enjoyed Skye but the attitude of the owner was very disappointing and the fact that garden wasn't secure meant it was difficult to relax with the dogs in the garden. I have stayed in several cottages through Sykes and have never had such an experience with an owner. I thought it might just be me but the Google reviews for the nearby campsite details a similar attitude.

The Roundhouse exceeded expectations - bigger and better.

It is in a blissfully quiet location, with lovely views out of the main (round!) living room. Very well equipped - full weeks worth of toilet roll/detergent etc. All bedrooms had bathrobes and slippers, and a cute toiletries kit (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner) plus hairdryer. Smart television. Supermarkets deliver to the house and the owners/cleaners will take in the groceries for you if you arrange the time with them so it's all there when you arrive. The central heating was ferociously efficient, and loads of really hot water. The cleaners had done a very good job. Isobel and John were particularly friendly and helpful hosts, making the holiday and getting around easier. They have clearly taken a lot of trouble to make their house inviting and welcoming, and go the extra mile to help you. The location is good - centrally placed, lots of good roads so driving to scenic locations for walks/trips/days out is easy. Gleneagles station is only a few miles away, on the main line to Stirling, Perth and Inverness. The Roundhouse itself is up a single track road, but good visibility and plenty of passing places so even a mediocre driver like me could manage! Thorougly recommend.

The Roundhouse exceeded all our expectations for a self-catering stay.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Blackford, Scotland, this charming cottage offered stunning views and a tranquil escape for our multi-generational family. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the immaculate cleanliness. The thoughtful touches, like the gift baskets filled with toiletries, luxurious dressing gowns, and slippers, truly elevated our experience to a hotel-like feel. Even the little things, like a hairdryer and a Nespresso machine with pods, were greatly appreciated. The spacious and well-equipped kitchen made mealtimes a breeze, and the washing machine and dryer were lifesavers with young children in tow. But the true stars of the show were the breathtaking views and abundant wildlife sightings right outside our doorstep. The kids were enthralled, and we all enjoyed the peacefulness of the location. The owners were incredibly friendly and made themselves readily available for any questions we had. We all would love to return one day soon. If you're looking for a luxurious and comfortable self-catering getaway that caters perfectly to families, The Roundhouse is an absolute gem!
