What our customers say about their holidays
Julie - Verified booking
We had a great holiday in Mowzel and in chapel Place.
Parking is right at the door and my estate car fitted in the space no problem. Just a small space, but worth its weight in gold in Mousehole. Did not use garden, as it was too cold in November. Used woodburner, took logs and kindling with us, but Tesco petrol station in Penzance sells these. Great cottage for access to Tremenheere and the Cape. St just was great. We visited St Ives, 30 mins away, but wouldnât bother againâ¦.Very very steep hills. The no.1 deli is fab in Mousehole, just round the bend from The Ship. We had amazing and delicious meals on the front, both at no.1 and also in Deli Kitchen. In fact the food all week has been incredible. Back to the cottage. The downstairs shower room, Iâd off the sitting room, so we only used the downstairs loo. Upstairs there was a Hypnos mattress. With a white company quilt in the main bedroom. Although the bed is smaller than were used to, a 5â double we both slept through each night. I loved the small en-suite. However, Iâm 5â and a sized 10. My husband could not fit in there. The main shower room, which services the other 2 bedrooms was his to use. So in all 2 doubles, one twin. One en-suite and 2 shower rooms, itâs like the tardis! The kitchen/diner was small, but perfectly fitted out. Everything we needed was there for leisureâs breakfasts, whilst we planned our day. Dishwasher, great microwave, oven and a washer (did not use washing machine). We took our own dishwasher tabs, but some were provided. Plenty of loo rolls too! Weâve stayed in some cottages, where the basics were not there whem]n we arrived, but in 2 chapel placeâ¦tea/coffee/milk, biscuits and plenty of loo rolls/fairy liquid and dishwasher tabs. We had a great holiday in Mousehole and were lucky to be there on bonfire night. The fireworks over the harbour were spectacular and I will never forget that feeling of being joyful and reminiscent of childhood days, just magical. People with sparklers in the beach, gathered round harbour wall to watch 30 mins of oooohhhâs and aaaarrrghâs. Soon be Christmas lights and I only wish we were heading back to chapel place for what would be another memorable holiday. Thank you to the owners of Chapel Place, it was lovely and youâve got a really nice home in Mousehole. The only thing that would be niceâ¦A Radio in the kitchen.

Overall we had a lovely stay, though there were a few issues.
The mill is lovely, spacious and the garden is wonderful and nicely maintained- our dog enjoyed the extensive outdoor space (and pond!). The space is not fenced and is shared with two other cottages which are in close proximity, but this worked for us as our dog is very laid back! The cottage was a bit dusty in places, and there were a few hairs in the bathroom sink and floor when we arrived, the rest of the cottage was clean, comfortably furnished, and warm. The location is great, the mill is very peaceful but only a few minutes away from Penzance and all of the shops and services there, and is close to loads of interesting day trip locations and National Trust sites. On our second to last day, the water went off- absolutely no fault of the owner who informed us in the evening. This did mean no toilets and no fresh drinking water, the only water we had was what was left in the hot water tank in the property which we had to use to manually fill the cistern so we could use the toilet. As we had been told of the issue late Sunday, we were also not able to buy water to use as we waited for an update. We did reach out to Sykes to see if there were any other cottages available, should the owners not be able to resolve the issue however thankfully it was fixed by lunchtime the following day. Although not their fault, it would have been useful to know about the issue earlier so we could have bought water or found alternative accommodation. The owner dropped off one large bottle of water the following morning of the issue and then offered us the use of the toilet in an empty holiday cottage across the courtyard after Sykes had been contacted, however it would have been better to offer this on the evening the water went out when it was clear it would not be fixed quickly, as it would have saved us an unpleasant night without any facilities! Overall we had a good stay, however the water issue did put a damper on the last 2 days.

Beautifully renovated mill building converted to three bedroom accommodation.
The living area is open plan, bright and airy, Ideal for socialising as a family, and adequately equipped for a self catering holiday. The bedrooms were as described, clean and fresh. A blind over the small window in the double bed room would be a good addition but we were able to improvise satisfactorily.. The gardens are huge with a lovely little lake which, when we visited, had waterlilies in bloom and damsel flies flitting about. There are places to sit and contemplate or read or just chat. The location is down a private road near a small stream and is very peaceful. The host was very welcoming ( Cream tea! thank you!) on arrival , showed us around and was available if we needed anything but left us to ourselves otherwise which was perfect. I am sure if there had been a problem he would have been on it straight away. The location is ideal for visiting some lovely little coves for swimming or surfing or for walks along the South West Coast path. There are gardens at Trewidden and Tanglewood which are worth a visit and others which we didn't have time to get to. Mousehole is quant. The Minack isn't far but book in advance of your stay. Only had a week , had a lovely time and wish we had had longer. Thank you.

I wonder how often the owners check this house and whether they are satisfied with its general condition and cleanliness.
We found it was distinctly random, with some basic work surfaces cleaned and many other areas completely neglected, resulting in many cobwebs, dirt and dust. Sadly for this reason alone, we would not rebook. We also found the house and garden neglected, needing care and attention, eg broken garden furniture, no door hooks at all for wet coats, etc. very thick dust on the fire surround and covering all the utensils, broken bathroom door handle, shower control sticking and often hard to turn off, random old, not working, or out of date items/ornaments, broken or incomplete telescopeâ¦â¦ We felt, given the local shop has closed, at least a pint of milk would also have been welcome on arrival and note that house details, eg wifi info given, in the earlier email, no longer applies. All of that said, the house is in a good position, has private parking and really wonderful sea views. If you feel on balance, that is more important, then it does provide economical accommodation.

This cottage is well equipped but facilities are dated, paintwork is grubby and kitchen cupboard doors were dirty.
It was surface clean but things like the cooker hood and light fittings etc were very dusty. There were cobwebs in every corner and in the main bedroom, there was a cobweb that extended across the whole width of the bed head!! The toilet bowl in the downstairs toilet leaked and had apparently been a problem for a long time looking at the faults book! The main reason I booked this cottage was itâs position and the views which were decidedly marred by the fact that the picture window in the lounge had blown and the telescope that was featured didnât work either. Being health care professionals, we are very aware of the covid requirements and we didnât consider this cottage to be covid ready. It is a shame that the owners did not take the opportunity of lockdown to address some if not all of the issues that I have outlined. This cottage is up a fairly steep bank and, along with the stairs is really not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
