  We shunned Spain for the sunnier Lake District.

  We spent the hottest week of the summer in the coolest cottage in Grange over Sands. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. Booking was easy and the owners were in touch before our journey with helpful advice and directions. The cottage was a delight. Beautifully set out and equipped. Kitchen and lounge were lovely. Everything we needed. The second fridge was a real bonus in the hot weather. Spotlessly clean, the bedrooms, linen and towels were first class. Wet room good for quick showers too. Hot water and pressure again excellent. We didn’t use the dishwasher although there is one in the kitchen. We travel light so were able to do a couple of washings in the machine which had clear instructions, quick eco wash which left the laundry almost dry. Came home with a clean case! Outside space was lovely, rooftop terrace was really good for drinks and eating and had brilliant views over the water. The railway line is near the house but we enjoyed seeing the infrequent trains pass by and it did not disturb in the least. Back garden secluded and was ideal for chilling, reading a book and setting up the disposable barbecues we brought with us. There is a brilliant butcher and baker shop in the village. The nearby train stations made it really easy for day trips and we hardly used the car at all but managed to visit several place and still be back for late lunch. We were prepared for a longer walk into Grange over Sands but it was much closer than we thought and we were there in 15 mins easily at a leisurely pace along the prom. Great views over the estuary from the promenade and the house. The neighbours were all friendly and said good morning which was nice. Very quiet at night which was also good for sleeping, which we did professionally. All in all a brilliant week. We’d love to come back in the future. And we got a really good price as we booked almost last minute! Thanks for a lovely break. Robert

  Hillberry is a superb holiday home - certainly the best we've ever experienced, and we've enjoyed many that were excellent.

  Hillberry is a very modern, delightfully spacious, light and airy house, spotlessly clean, and furnished & equipped to the highest standard throughout. We were fortunate to have very warm weather throughout our stay but the house was never too hot or stuffy. We noticed that the house is well insulated and has a state of the art central heating system, so cold weather wouldn't have been a problem. All the bedrooms and two sitting rooms have large, up to date flat screen TVs, with Sky TV and a great DVD library. There is a constant supply of hot water, and in keeping with the rest of the house the bathrooms and showers are all very high quality. The owners have clearly put a great deal of thought and gone to considerable expense to create a truly top rate holiday home. The photographs on Sykes' website don't come near to doing it justice. Grange-Over-Sands is a delightful town with excellent food shops, restaurants, tea-rooms and pubs all within easy walking distance of Hillberry. Despite that the town is very quiet, even on Friday and Saturday nights. If you're looking for the perfect base for a Lake District holiday, this is it!

  This property did not disappoint and it was an ideal base for our walking group get-together which we had to postpone from last year.

  Hilberry is an attractive modern property ideally located for all Grange and the Southern Lakes, has to offer. The house is spacious, spotlessly clean, very well equipped, there is on-site parking and a garden which can be used whatever the weather! The views across the bay are stunning – especially on moon-lit nights. The kitchen/dining area is a real ‘family’ space and the lounge and snug provide cosy seating areas. The bedrooms (even the single) are large, with quality beds and furniture. The two sitting rooms and all the bedrooms have large flat screen TVs, with Sky TV and there is a large DVD library – so no arguing about who watches what!! The area is well served by public transport, so if you don’t want to use your car then there is an excellent train service and also regular buses to Kendal or Barrow in Furness. There is nothing negative to say about Hilberry. It was a real pleasure to stay there and we do hope to return, so thank you Sarah and Richard for providing such an exceptional property.

  Fantastic property.

  The pictures and marketing really does not do it justice at all. This is equipped to the highest standard with everything you could possibly need. It’s immaculately clean. We stayed as a family of 8 and it was perfect. We had a young child and there was a spare bed and cot ( in immaculate condition) in the huge master bedroom. It was also lovely to find a separate tv room which was perfect for the children. There are hundreds of dvds but also sky movies. We loved the kitchen space which was perfect for entertaining and it was lovely to all sit comfortably around one table as a family. The owners were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. I sent various emails in the run up to our stay and they were very helpful. They provided lots of local information and it was lovely to be welcomed with fresh cookies and a lovely bottle of wine. Grange-over-Sands isa fantastic location in itself but it’s also a fantastic base to explore other areas of the lakes. I can’t recommend this property highly enough!

  The photos of this property on Sykes' website look beautiful, but we were absolutely blown away by the house when we arrived - everything about it is simply amazing :).

  Hillberry is situated in a great location - both for visiting the nearby Lake District and also for the quaint town of Grange Over Sands in which it is located - and has a private driveway, so parking is easy. The house is immaculately clean and furnished to the highest of standards with absolutely everything anyone could possibly want/need whilst on holiday - and then some! The hosts (Sarah & Richard) live next door and are lovely people who went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay, providing us with a complimentary bottle of wine and some milk and cookies which were very much appreciated, as we did not arrive until late in the evening. The weather was very kind to us during our stay so we were able to make good use of the lovely garden too. If this is the kind of holiday you are looking for, we can highly recommend Hillberry.
