What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely week at Rowan Cottage.
The bedrooms were immaculate and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were very clean, shower over the bath not fantastic but not bad either. When we first went upstairs and opened the door to the main bedroom with ensuite it was like walking into a very nice hotel room. Downstairs was very comfortable and clean, but not all new which with 2 dogs I really do prefer as you aren't constantly worrying all the time. The sofas were lovely to sit on and plenty of room for 4 of us and the 2 dogs. The small porch from the garden gave a good area for drying the dogs feet and a door between the kitchen and living room was great, also a door from the living room to upstairs. So easy to stop dogs going were you didn't want them too. I keep going on about the ease with the dogs, but for us it makes a big difference to how much you can relax when in someone else's property. The garden was lovely, again great for the dogs, secure although a very small dog may get under the gate. Our smallest is a jack russell and he couldn't get out and he really tried when he saw a rabbit run under the fence! Footpaths opposite the cottage so plenty of walking. The Cuckoo Brow Inn in Far Sawey was very welcoming, we ate there a couple of times, if you like big portions you won't be disappointed. Dogs welcome and just a few minutes walk. It wasn't really the weather for sitting in the garden but I am sure it is beautiful in the summer. Well kitted out in the kitchen so everything you need if wanting to cook properly, even down to a set of kitchen scales. We had seen someone elses review saying no milk so had taken some with us, which there wasn't so that was helpful. At first slightly disappointed to find no welcome items at all, it is a nice touch when you get in after a long drive (and a breakdown) to find milk and biscuits, just that little something when you arrive. There was a cleaning kit, with sponge, couple of bin bags and dishwashing tables which was nice, but no washing up liquid (we had taken dishwasher tablets, but not the washing up liquid!). So I would definitely say you need to take everything you need with you, tea/coffee etc, shops are a good drive away. Also no logs at all for the wood burner, but the cottage was so warm we didn't need to light it anyway. The heating is excellent in the cottage, we kept turning the radiators off as getting too warm. After we had been there a couple of days, we decided that the owners have gone to so much trouble to make sure that the practical and comfort side of the cottage is top rate, that we would much rather have that, than a welcome gift on the table but other areas lacking which is often the case. We would definitely stay here again.

The property itself was well presented and welcoming.
At first sight, we were very happy with the property. After checking in, we stepped out for a walk and came back to the property to realise heating didn't work and there was no hot water. We were two families with young kids having to brave the cold whole night in freezing temperatures. It was just unacceptable. It wasn't a pleasant 1st day experience on a family holiday. We complained to the owner and the Lakelovers team but it wasn't fixed until 11:45 the next morning which also meant half a day gone wasted. We stepped out to enjoy the lake and came back in the evening to find out again the heating didn't work. We complained to the owner and the Lakelovers team as we didn't want to go through one more night of hell in extremely cold conditions. Whilst the owner and the Laklovers team were apologetic, we didnât feel the urgency to fix the issue. I would have expected to be fixed on an emergency basis as it was second day in running the issue had occurred. To our misery, we had to go through another nightmare night of freezing cold conditions. It was again fixed temporarily in the morning around 11 AM so that we can get some hot water with a promise that a Boiler Engineer would come and fix it. Eventually it got fixed and rest of our stay felt a lot more comfortable as we didnât face heating or hot water problems. For us, first 2 days was a nightmare and very stressful with young kids who couldn't bear the cold. My youngest was Eczema prone and it became worse too. We should not have gone through this experience on a holiday after paying a bomb. The heating is something the owner or the Lakelovers team should have ensured beforehand and not let the guests go through a horrendous time during their holiday.

A lovely cottage in a super location.
The cottage is cosy and spacious. The flagstone hallway and large cloakroom with drying rack meant we didnât need to worry about muddy boots and wet clothes. All the bedrooms are comfortable and the sitting room with log burner is great for relaxing after days out walking. Itâs right in the centre of Hawkshead so very easy to pop out for food, drinks and shops. Iâve never stayed anywhere before with so much gear provided in the kitchen. When staying in other cottages attempting to cook has been challenging, hacking food with bad knives and very minimal equipment available but here there is absolutely everything you could possibly need. The owners are very generous, so much is provided including coffee, oils, a bottle of wine and nice soaps. There are loads of walks from the doorstep with the possibility of increasing the range by using the bus. We didnât move the car all week. The village pubs, restaurants and cafes have good food with imaginative vegetarian choices and some vegan options. While we were there the vegetarian cafe didnât have a chef so had a very limited menu. The coop is open long hours and is fine for basics, although the vegan range is extremely small. Thank you very much to the cottage owners for a fabulous week.

The cottage was fabulous and we had a wonderful stay from 20th Dec to 30th Dec 2024.
We really couldn't have asked for more and it was lovely to walk into the cottage and see how beautifully it had been decorated for Christmas, which was a lovely touch. The cottage is "genuinely" dog friendly and there was no list of rules which is often the case for cottages that purport to be dog friendly. It was perfect for our two active spaniels (the utility/boot room was perfect when returning home from walks with muddy boots and dogs!) I previously read a review about how well stocked the kitchen is and they weren't wrong - we regularly stay in holiday cottages and this was by far the best in relation to the kitchen equipment that is provided and the quality of appliances. The owners were also beyond generous with what they supplied in relation to cleaning/laundry products, coffee beans etc - the even left Christmas themed serviettes for us and a bottle of wine! The cottage was a great place to spend Christmas because it was so cosy and comfortable and situated in a lovely village with so much to do on our doorstep. Finally, we were fortunate enough to meet the owners who are really lovely people and wanted to ensure our stay was perfect. A big thank you for a wonderful, memorable Christmas

We had a wonderful stay at your gorgeous property and we definitely book again next year.
It was really perfect for our family and we just loved the location. You have done it up so beautifully - what a lovely home. We did have a couple of points to mention: Washing Machine: I went to use the machine and opened the door and it really smelt of damp. I opened the soap drawer and it was black with mould and really smelt. I also checked round the rubber rim and it was all mouldy. I cleaned it all out and got it sorted so that I could use it. I think it needs a deeper clean though as our clothes came out smelly of damp. Linen: The linen on the Master Bed smelt of damp - maybe they have been washed in the machine? We had to remove the pillow cases and sleep on towels. Master Bed Shower: We used this once and immediately noticed water dripping through the wooden beam by the dining table. We stopped the shower straight away and mopped up the water downstairs. We tried ringing Sykes to report this issues but we held on for 38mins, requested a call back and never got anywhere with them. We didn't use the shower again - but this needs sorting ASAP. None of the above prevented us from having a wonderful stay and as I say - we will be back! Thank you so much
