What our customers say about their holidays

The family who own and run this property deserve to succeed!
Ann welcomed us and gave us a comprehensive tour of the Chalet but was always ready to answer any additional questions. She and Sarah, her daughter, are a good team! They left us an amazing welcome basket with biscuits, eggs, sweets, tea bags, hot chocolate, sugar, coffee, mulled wine, etc. ( that wasnât everything!) We met Annâs husband, Dennis, and daughter-in-law Helen and young Edward, Annâs grandson. All very friendly and happy to engage. My elderly mother and I stayed here during one of the coldest weeks of December. No matter, we were very cosy and didnât feel the need to venture far. The log burner is very efficient and easy to manage even for an inexperienced townie like myself. The Chalet kitchen is amazingly equipped, above and beyond what most cooks would use. Useful touches like neat labels on the light switches show an attention to detail. And everything was beautifully clean. In most places I stay I usually find myself bleaching everything before use. Not here! Totally comfortable with the standards of hygiene. Some have complained about there not being a dishwasher but for me itâs no big deal to wash up. Just rope in the other occupants, chat, and watch the trains! The views from all windows are so peaceful. Watching the sunrise and sunset on a couple of the days was stunning. One night I downloaded a stargazing app and enjoyed identifying stars and a couple of planets as the sky was so clear. We even enjoyed watching the trains. They didnât disturb us but they because of the season all of the windows were closed. The farm track is a nice little walk which we did a couple of times. The track itself is well-maintained considering it is a working farm with wagons and farm vehicles constantly using it. There is a passing place at the halfway point so no panic if you meet another vehicle. We didnât eat out as we were so cosy and I could cook at a slower pace. Northallerton, 7 miles away, has all one needs for food shopping. Nearby is the English Heritage site, Mount Grace Priory and gardens, which is well worth a visit. Further afield are the North York Moors, stunning at any time of the year but especially in the snow! I honestly couldnât find fault with the Chalet and, hopefully, we will be able to stay again in the near future.

The property was well equipped & very comfortable.
It was well cared for and beautifully clean. We thought there were two bathrooms in the property, one with a bath & one with a shower, plus a downstairs wc. There was a downstairs wc. There was a bathroom with a shower over the bath/shower. There was a notice on this shower advising it was for decoration only, not for use. There was a shower cubicle in a separate room, just a shower cubicle, no sink or wc. The property sleeps 6 - one usuable shower between 6 people is a potential problem. As we didn't have more than 4 of us there at once it was manageable. Yes, there is a bath. A beautiful, large, free standing bath that would have taken an age to fill. As all but one of our party are 60 over we tend to shower rather than bathe. There was no QR code in the property on arrival. There was a file on the dining table table with a phone number for a caretaker. I called this number and the caretaker advised she would contact the property owners and provide the QR code as soon as possible. Our stay began on a Saturday, the QR code arrived on Wednesday. Our friends had left (due to an unrelated issue that arose) before it arrived so did not actually check in. Shower & QR code unavailability are where Angel Cottage failed to meet expectations. In every other way it met or exceeded expectation. We had no issues with parking (two cars) or noise. For most of our stay the weather was colder and wetter than wished for so we appreciated that the heating was on. We didn't use the outside space because of the weather. It was an easy, 10 minute walk, either along the road or the canal tow path, to the bottom of Skipton high street and everything the town has to offer. A less than 5 minute walk to the train station, Aireville Park and a large supermarket. It's a bonus not to have to drive everywhere. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider booking Angel Cottage again. We'd just need a rota for the shower if there were 6 of us.

Angel Cottage is a Victorian mid terrace which has been updated and furnished to a good standard.
The theme of angels and hearts is used throughout. The beds are comfortable and the dining room is a great place to congregate in the centre of the property. The kitchen is very well equipped and the private courtyard garden is a real sun catcher all day for relaxing and al fresco dining. As with many older properties the ceilings are high so the stairs are a bit steeper than standard. The owners have thoughtfully provided rails on both sides of the stairwell. The ground floor has gloss tiles or laminated wood floors with rugs. Visitors who are not so steady on their feet need to be careful as the rugs are not held by grippers and there is a slight ramp at the threshold between the hall and dining room. The big plus of this cottage is its proximity to the amenities of Skipton. Rail station just 2 minutes walk as is the entrance to the canal towpath and the lovely Aireville Park. Supermarkets 3 minutes walk and the centre of town and Skipton Castle a 10-15 minute stroll. Less good was the noise from the main road outside which is persistent between 6am and midnight. When the traffic stops a bright security light for the railway comes on until dawn. This particularly affects the Lounge and Bedroom Two. Parking at the rear of the property was a boon as we often found street parking to be unavailable.

Overall we had a nice week in February. The hosts were lovely and met us on arrival. The cottage was cosy and comfortable. The furnishings however are dated. The kitchen lacks utensils and equipment to be able to use it fully. The pillows didn’t have protectors on. The rear garden is nothing like it looks in the pictures and was in bad need of a power wash. The flags were slippy as were covered in moss and algae. There were also steps in the garden which were difficult to negotiate. The main issue with the property is the location and this not being as described. It is very close to the village however this is up a steep hill. There is no-where to walk from the cottage that doesn’t involve a steep hill. Parking was also not ideal. It is on the road facing the cottage - the road is extremely busy for a rural village. Once parked you have to walk on a patch of grass to access the passenger side of the car. The village has some nice shops but the pubs were poor. Im sorry but we wouldnt recommend or stay again. With updating and maintenance in the garden it could be massively improved. However, nothing can be done about the hill or parking facilities.

A well presented holiday cottage, well equipped and with a pleasant, private outside space.
The road outside is very busy and noisy, not too much of a problem when the windows are shut but could be a problem in warmer weather when windows are open. It wasn't a problem for us as we were only a couple staying but I would mention that there isn't a master suite as mentioned in the cottage description. Upstairs there are three good size bedrooms. The "shower room" is literally just a shower in a cupboard across the hall and there is no sink in there so after showering in a very confined space you have to come out into the hall and then go in to the bathroom, also accessed from the hall, to finish getting ready - may be a problem if there are other people in your party. The bathroom is spacious but shower cannot be used so options are limited. The downstairs cloakroom was another confined space that opened directly into the dining room and so not ideal. None of the rooms appeared to have a super king size bed as stated. We did enjoy our stay and appreciated the easy walk into town along the canal towpath and it was an ideal location for exploring further afield.
