What our customers say about their holidays

Quirky and cosy, well equipped property on four levels.
Two good sized fridges in the kitchen, good size freezer and washer/dryer in the boot room. Everon stove (Aga style) was a bit of a challenge but we managed ok. Good size bedrooms with comfy beds (bed linen could do with being upgraded), lovely big kitchen with large farmhouse kitchen table. Beautiful lounge with an open coal fire which was perfect for our Christmas stay? The Christmas decorations and Christmas tree were perfect, even down to putting chocolates on the tree for our small grandchildren. A welcome pack of Champagne and biscuits was much appreciated and we all enjoyed the 'treasure hunt', especially when there was treasure (sweets) at the end of it. The location is stunning and we all had our own version of which window had the best view. The window shapes in the cottage are varied with some being arch, round, stained etc. Our grandchildren loved each morning looking out to see the sheep and horses in the field next to the cottage. We cannot comment on the village facilities as being Christmas most were closed over the time we were there. There is a good size bathroom with a toilet, bath and an electric shower on the 2nd floor, a shower and toilet on the ground floor off the boot room. Attention to detail in regards to cleaning could be improved - big cobwebs, dead flies on window sills. Outside space a little grubby - big cobwebs, dead spiders and flies need sweeping off of the inside of the canopy outside the front door. There are two allocated parking bays outside the cottage. We had a fabulous family Christmas (4 adults, 2 small children) and all loved the quirky style of the cottage, we have some lovely memories which we will treasure forever, in fact our two little grandchildren didn't want to leave. We are listing a few little niggles which could be improved upon but by no means did they impact on our stay: Bedroom on the top floor has a curtain across the door opening (no closing door) Poor water flow re shower on 2nd floor. Boot room shower could do with some heat in it, heated towel rail not working, bit of an upgrade would improve this area, it could be a bit smarter and cleaner. Front door curtain needs replacing, existing one very shabby.

Booked our break at the âFairleighâ after a previous break was cancelled and we had an absolutely fantastic time.
The house was beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard whilst also keeping the character of the house. The kitchen was great and every item you can imagine you will need whilst cooking in the kitchen was there which was great! The Fairleigh has a washer and dryer which is a great added extra for bigger familyâs and longer stays! The house was immaculately clean throughout which is reassuring during the current pandemic we are living in. The house is set out over 3 floors. First floor consists of a large living room with 2 large sofas and a single chair. They is a dining room with a large table with 8 and then the large kitchen with utilities room and downstairs WC. Second floor has a beautiful family bathroom ( the bath is as amazing as it looks on the photos) with the master room having an en-suite plus another spacious double bedroom. The third floor has 2 more spacious bedrooms with double beds (both with en-suite bathrooms) plus a pull out double bed in the front bedroom. We had a wonderful stay and the accommodation was perfectly located for walking and site seeing. Their is private parking to the rear of the property for one car and more parking only a short 2 minute walk away. We had a contactless arrival collecting the keys from the key safe located at the front of the property. We stayed here in April just as the weather was still cold and I must say the house was nice and cosy with the heating on to say it was a big house it got warm fast and stayed warm! We will definitely stay here again! 5*

Yet another wonderful holiday at the Chapel.
This time we were having a very special vow renewals service at the local church. The cottage had everything we needed and plenty of room for manicures and beauty treatments, courtesy of the church warden's daughter. The church is beautiful and so peaceful - please sign their visitors book to try to save it. Let's keep it there for another 200 years. We couldn't have had anywhere better to stay. Plenty of room for everyone and the two bathrooms made getting ready easy, which was pretty impressive with seven adults. The rooms are lovely and it's so restful. I love the room where you can hear the stream running by. Just imagine the equivalent of two and half weddings going from the same location and you'll understand why we keep coming back to the chapel. Everyone was comfortably seated for the take away 'Desperate Dan' steak pie from The Coach and Horses pub (wonderful pub, check it out). We even sent the boys out for breakfast at Graze on the Green (delicious food and caakes, very friendly), so we could get ready in peace. Large fridge and separate freezer were great, no problem with being able to stock up for days ahead. A week isn't long enough. Plenty of local places to visit and you're near to Whitby, Helmsley and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (check out dining services on the steam trains, or the steam train driving experience if you're so inclined). The chapel owner uses it for his own holidays, so you know it's good. He's so helpful and friendly, thank you Mark. We'll be back.

Decent sized house near centre of town, bedrooms were comfortable with en suite bathrooms.
However, there was a lack of some basic amenities- no hand soap, no washing up liquid, barely enough loo roll to last one night for 6 of us, not enough cutlery- only 4 spoons for 6 people staying, not enough hot water for all 6 of us to have a shower- thereâs a lovely bath in the main bathroom which we were unable to use as it wouldâve taken up all the hot water! Poor advertising of position of house as it is on a busy junction on the main road into Whitby. No set of instructions / booklet and no obvious recycling facilities available, no information about local area, places to go. Sky TV advertised as being available in all rooms, however we found this to only be available downstairs and in main bedroom. While there is parking for one small car, it is very difficult to manoeuvre in and out due to not encroaching on neighbours space. On arrival there was a strong smell of wet dog which we tried to cover up but could still smell it by the end of the week. Seating area outside is a worn out old bench on a patio that is directly opposite main road and therefore not a space you would want to sit out in. Wallpaper was peeling in a few rooms, paint was peeling off in the lounge, kitchen floor looked grubby and was lumpy toward the utility- could be a trip hazard for anyone with poor balance. Overall this was not good value for the money, would not come back again

A quirky old property that is feeling its age.
We had a lovely stay and the property is well positioned. However, the listing needs updating. There are not three double beds, as stated and photographed, but two double and two twins. The kitchen is very different to shown and now has an induction hob which needs to be stated as it cannot be used by someone with a pacemaker. This was an issue for us. The property was not very clean, with lots of dust and cobwebs. Carpets very worn, especially in the lounge. Some nice furniture, some very old and tired. The doors donât fit properly, making them very noisy when opening and closing. Kitchen, whilst fairly new, is designed with the fridge in front of cupboards, this could be easily remedied by moving one of the storage heaters and relocating it. The bedding was very old and worn, our had bloodstains on it. Towels were good and seemed fairly new but the bathrooms are very old and grubby, in much need of a re-grouting and new shower screens at the very least. The TV was difficult to use, perhaps some very clear instructions left by the remotes would help? The property instruction book was very interesting, with lots of old photographs and maps of the area, but it does need to be updated. The owners, whenever we contacted them, were very helpful and friendly.
